this was my first real camping trip and i can say it was awesome. well we left about 1 30 in the morning on sunday so we could get up there set up camp and fish and thats what we did we set up the tent cooked brunch and was off to the lake, the lake was very slow first day only caught 5 fish between me and my girl friend one brown on the fly 4 small stockers on inflated crawlers. later in the day it started to sprinkle and then it really started to come down, hail storms and thunderstorms. it sucked but it was ok, we went down the hill to bishop to get dinner sense we couldnt cook and we got panchos in case it would be raining tomorrow.

next day we woke up early made breakfast and went into the back country out of the mosquito flat trail head we hiked all the way to long lake and fished every single lake and caught a fish at every lake, all fish were brown or brook trout great colors i love natural fish i dont care if they are only 8-10 inches they still fight hard for their size. we wanted to hike up to the treasure lakes but we forgot to pack food and enough water so we didint make it up there :( but it was still awesome. o ya btw i lost a 4-5 lb brown in the first lake think its marsh lake???? :( he came up, took me in the weeds and he shook his head and opened his mouth right in front of me and spit the hook, all fish were caught on either inflated n/c, fly, or panther martin. came back fished the lake for nothing checked out the stream by the camp site and got a small brownie.

tuesday we were coming home but didnt want to leave without fishing some where lol. so we pack up after break fast head up to the road to south lake, lake sabrina ect. and it was blocked off due to the fire. so there went that plan, so we decided to back track and go to pvr, we walked all the way to the boat ramp and fishing was good like always caught 3 right away on night crawlers, then one on a panther martin, then one on a mini jig then a bunch of perch and then many more trout on the gulp eggs. lost a lot too. all fish were c,p&r

all in all a great trip i love it so much up there i want to go back haha, take care God bless.pics will be up soon

here are just some of the random pics i have of the trip

Very nice pics! Are the pics of the perch from the reservoir?
I am heading to Golden Trout territory in little over a week. We will be backpacking in 25 miles in. I will be heading where the Mega Goldens live....I think some of you know what im talking about...

Congrats on having such a great time. Thanks for sharing.

Very nice trip. If my memory is correct, I believe that the first lake that you come to on the trail is Mack. We usually go up to the area around Long to camp. I've also fished Chickenfoot and Gem.
Havn't made it up to the Treasures yet. I looked at the map before and Im not sure if the best way up there is from Long's inlet or over the ridge from Gem.
I see you stopped at the Whitney fish hatchery. That always makes for a nice rest stop. Thanks for sharring.

We took the Inlet from Long to T. Lakes.
You have to go up this thing though which is kinda nutty at altitude..
Kindof an overnight trip or a solid day hike if you are in shape and very quick.
You could get lost easy on that trail if you aren't careful too. The way up near Gems is the real trail.

I was supposed to be up there (or actually another spot to be accurate) right now as I type this. All my plans got screwed up though man. I love it back there! If you wanna drive I'll pay for gas and find the feesh! You don't have to ask me twice to return back there kid! We didn't even get to stay at altitude for more than 24 hours. Next time I'm running you through the mill!

You have to remember that this is a 50 mile backpacking trip. I am expecting to eat some trout. You can only eat so much of the dried food. It's just part of the experience. From what I understand this particular lake is full of trout and gets very light fishing pressure. I don't think all the trout in the lake will be Goldens.
I don't abuse it. I will only keep what we will eat.

Awesome pics man. We might have been up there around the same time. Was camping in East Fork from July 18th-25th. Fishing for me was pretty slow, didnt try the n/c which worked well the year before. Was mostly using power bait and salmon eggs. Heading back up there end of Aug, and really want to hike to those upper lakes past mosquito flats like you did. I wish my girlfriend was into fishing like yours!
