I was visiting family last weekend in Jackson, CA and luckily decided to bring my gear along with me. My original plan was to fish either Amador or Pardee but with temps in the 105 range :EyePop: i decided to pass on those lakes. My uncle who doesnt really fish at all decided to take me up to the tahoe area and try caples lake. The lake looked really pretty and we found a nice spot on a giant boulder

The lake had stocked some nice fish after its recent draining but there was only one problem, my dad took all of my trout tackle with him to Montana  I had a small little baitcaster set up and my calcutta 400 for fishing swimbaits at amador. This was not looking good  Luckily I had my float tube with me and i managed to scavenge some tackle : 1 orange power worm, 1 pack of tiny splitshots, 2 salmon egg hooks, and some old 2lb leader. I decided to splice the 2 lb to my 8lb and tie up a dropshot. It was hard to cast the small weights but after about 5 mins i felt a nice little tick, then a bigger pull, i reeled in the slack, swung, and connected to a nice fish, it took a long run toward the middle of the lake and then fought for about 2 mins. It was fighting kinda wierd and it gave up pretty easily. (When filleting it, the fish was full of eggs which is probably why) It went 27" but i didn't get a weight. It was very heavy with all the eggs and such a wide girth.

We caught a few more fish here and then decided to try the carson river, which was WFO on little stockers. we probably caught and released over 50 in an hour. I was getting some funny looks  fishing a baitcaster in a little river lol.

p.s. I highly recommend checking out the Kirkwood Inn for lunch or dinner, it's a cool little place with awesome burgers and sandwiches

Gman, dang, and I was so proud of my 20 1/2 incher from the same region. Yours looks like one of the trophy fish stocked in Caples this year.

Lefty - we saw some fish cruising the shallows that were easily 10+ lbs. They didnt want to eat anything we had, but they were huge, I guess DFG really did stock some monsters

I've been chasing those big trout at Caples every time I fish there, which is just about weekly. You can see them swim right past you, out 5 feet from shore and they just ignore anything you throw at them and anything sitting, waiting for them. I'm awed by your catch.
