Finally! Friday morning...it was time for our(me and my bro's) San Quintin trip. I tried to get some more people to go, but...you know how it goes.
We reserved the ROMY out of Pedros Pangas to fish Sunday the 19th. We were originaly going to fish Saturday and Sunday but since we couldn’t get anybody to split the other day with so we opted for some exploring/surf fishing on Saturday.
Friday
The drive down went perfect. Left around 6:30am…got some bait from Pauls bait n’ Tackle and headed for SQ. There was only one military checkpoint and we were waved thru. Got to the old mill around 1pm?

http://i203.photobucket.com/albums/aa293/ogvictor1/sq091.jpg
Had our complimentary beers and unloaded the jeep. After some rest we hit up Don Eddie’s for some grub, got some more rest…then got some more grub in town. We had some messican style hot dogs wrapped in bacon with all the toppings including beans. We fished the pier in front of the Old Mill later that evening but all that was biting was baitfish.
Saturday
Woke up, grabbed our surf gear and headed for the beach. We started out at the stretch of beach in front of La Pinta Hotel

The beach was sooooo crowded with swimmers and surfers…hahaha
http://i203.photobucket.com/albums/aa293/ogvictor1/sq003.jpg
We tried a few spots down the beach but only hooked up on micro perch
http://i203.photobucket.com/albums/aa293/ogvictor1/sq018.jpg
And a crazy looking sand crab

http://i203.photobucket.com/albums/aa293/ogvictor1/sq012.jpg
I wanted to try a spot I heard could be holding some halibut, but if we kept following the beach we would have been trapped between the beach and the dunes at high tide. I later found out about a different route of getting there but it was too late. Next time LOL
The water here is full of gold colored flakes…didn’t get a good picture of it, but any sq regulars know what the flakes are from?
http://i203.photobucket.com/albums/aa293/ogvictor1/sq017.jpg
We got some directions to “La Chorrera” from one of the locals…It took a while to get there but it was worth it. We navigated around the Volcanes and arrived to this

http://i203.photobucket.com/albums/aa293/ogvictor1/sq030.jpg
Nobody was home…I got one nibble but that was it for about an hour. Hmmmm… Time to move. Driving down the hill to the beach was easy. Climbing back up the hill was a different story. It took about 5 or 6 tries til my bro finally got enough speed and made it up the hill LOL
http://i203.photobucket.com/albums/aa293/ogvictor1/sq031.jpg
We tried a different spot we scoped out a couple km back or so
http://i203.photobucket.com/albums/aa293/ogvictor1/sq040.jpg
From the time we got there til the time we left it was WFO perch…they varied in size. From small/medium

We drew the attention of a local guy who saw us fishing on the beach. He walked up with 3 barefoot kids and asked if we were catching anything. He said there was a guy fishing close by earlier that got discouraged and went home. I told him weve been catching and RELEASING fish for about 20 mins… “NO LOS TIRE!”(don’t throw them back!) LOL… If we were in the States fishing in one of my perch holes, I would of ignored him and kept throwing them back…but since we were in his town, his kids looked hungry, and it was WFO, we hooked him up with some dinner. “Woohaaa!” he would yell every time we hooked up LOL.
“Are you guys training for tournament or something?” LMAO… I had an extra rod so I rigged up a c-rig and gave the dude a quick lesson. He wades in waist deep with his slacks rolled up…casts out…tap tap…”woooohaaaaa!” hes on! LOL. I should of got a pic of him with his fish, but I didn’t think of it at the time. Hes hooking up on perch after perch…so me and my bro work the swimbaits and crankbiats for no love. Its starting to get late…time to head back in. We gave the guy and his kids a ride back to town since it would take them half a day to walk back.
I took some scenery pics on the drive back

We got back to the hotel…took a quick shower and off to Jardines for dinner. The food and service was awesome as usual.
Went back to the room felizes y llenos, got our gear ready for the next day, set the alarm, and knocked out.
Sunday
Load up the Jeep and off to meet our Capitan Hector. We lucked out on the weather since Friday and Saturday was choppy and windy. Today’s weather was much better although The water cooled down some. The plan was to head to the island and see if we could find some YT/topwater action…if they didn’t cooperate, we would head to the bottomfish grounds.
We get to the Island and start trolling Rapalas. A couple mins into the troll…HOOOKKKUUUPP! ….double hookup! We bring in some nice cudas. Set the rapalas out again and couple mins later…hook up again. A bonito this time. Troll some more….CUDAS….daym wheres the yellowtail? LOL. Since that whole area was full of fish…we just started tossing jigs. Cudas, Bonito, Calicos…just about every cast was a hookup. My arms feel like theyre going to fall off! We moved to a couple spots looking for the tails but we couldn’t find them. Well, at least these boners and gars pulled some drag…which Is what ive been wanting for a while…
http://i203.photobucket.com/albums/aa293/ogvictor1/sq061.jpg
We head out from the island to pick up some Rojos and lings…The fishing here is instant. Drop…tap …hookup. Hector and me tie on some of my jax jigs and go to town on the big reds…my bro works the dropperloop and brings up double, sometimes tripple hookups! LOL I’ve never felt so tired from reeling in fish so early in the day…and im sure my bro would agree.

My jig got stuck on the bottom like 3 times and Hector worked hard to make sure I got my jig back…”Estas jigs son buenas!” since he cant find them down there, and he worked so hard to get it back…I let him have it LOL. I tied on a “chupacabras” (lucanus) jig LOL and it worked just as well. We hit a couple lingcod spots and I got my ling on.
Fish hold is full and its time to head in
http://i203.photobucket.com/albums/aa293/ogvictor1/sq069.jpg
We gave hector half of the fish and we were still able to fill the cooler to the top.
