we got to Santa Barbara right at 7am to meet Capt. David Bacon and Tiffany at their slip. The Capt said the weather has been great and we should run to a spot near the islands.
greasy and smooth going through the channel. there was wildlife everywhere. Blue whales, pilot whales, lots of dolphins, etc…

Hour later we're dropping dropper loops to the bottom and pulling up HUGE coppers.

about 11am and we have reached our limits on rockfish.

Now we're wondering what to do with the rest of the day. i say i always wanted to catch a thresher or Halibut. The Capt says he's got a spot that we could drift for both. we motor another hour and set up. We were drifting off and letting bait soak for maybe 45 minutes when we hear a quick BZZZ. Mike grabs the rod and with the coaching of Tiffany and Capt Bacon, waits to set the hook. A few beats later the reel starts screaming. Mike feeds it, sets the hook like a bear and it's on.

This thing was running us all over the boat. Multi hand offs, multi sketchy anchor wraps, there was no way we were going to get this in the boat.
