Dad and I decided to hop on the Tradition yesterday again for a 3/4 day run to Catalina Island. Our crew consisted of Captain Steven Konrady, Derrick in the galley, and Morgon, John, and Matt working the deck. We filled up the tanks with some anchovies and sardines, and headed across the pond, with around 30 anglers.

We arrived at Catalina and had a steady pick on the bass for a while. I managed to get a few smaller ones, but also some bigger calicos, which were released. The calicos were also biting plastic very well. We hit a few more spots for some more nicer sized calicos, but the sea lions ate us alive at all of these spots. At our last spot, flylining a sardine was the ticket, and some really nice calicos came over the rail. I got a few nice ones until I hooked into something big. I had it coming through the stringers of kelp, but it wouldn't budge out of the last one. I bit the bullet and slacked off, and it came out, and we carefully netted it. It was my personal best calico. We didn't get a weight on it, but the crew estimated it at around 8 pounds, maybe more. We took a couple of quick pictures, and back in it went, and it swam off.

We ended up with about 80 bass, and a few barracuda and bonito. Nice fishing in quality and quantity. Once again, great times, great fishing!!
