Searcher 1 1/2 day at the tuna grounds

My girlfriend surprised me this week with a last minute trip on the Searcher. Ain't she sweet!!

We met up at Fishermens Landing and headed out early, 5PM, to make the long run down 160 miles. After being on the Relentless last weekend for the long run this boat was total luxury. We were served dinner before we even cleared the Coronado Islands and the baby back ribs sure were good.

We woke up and hit the first kelp at about 8AM. The kelp was holding nice sized yellowtail and I picked one up right off the back. No skunk for me! The next kelp was holding yellows and dorado and I got a real nice dorado!! What a start.

We spent the rest of the day trolling for a steady pick at some really nice quality albacore, bluefin, and even a skipjack.

Boat totals:

30 passengers
70 albacore
22 yellowtail
7 dorado
3 bluefin
1 skipjack

My total:

5 albacore
1 yellowtail
1 dorado

After you called, the landing called me to inform they are canceling the 2 day Condor leaving manana and going 1.5 day only: the Apollo right now is only 30 miles out and hanging BFT?!?!? Wah???

It's a crapshoot. Long boat ride and good fishing vs. short ride and a gamble.

How'd I miss this trip report ?! Anywho .... sounds like a very successful trip and only a 1 1/2er too !! Especially cool when I know you enjoy this flavor of our fishing experience so much. Those guys make great sashimi too, great sushi rolls too, great tekkamaki too, great chirashi too great ........ !!
