First of all, let me say that you can catch marlin all day at Cabo
they are abundant over there, is easier to find them and bigger,
but up here is not easy to find and land a marlin, and this is the first one
for the season at San Diego's, with all the pros you have here,
we were lucky to beat them all to the first one, all marlin clubs
were looking for the first marlin, is a race to catch it, and is a big, big
fish, unlikely for a solo fisherman to land it, unlike casting or bait fishing,
So for Marlin, it takes a well coordinated team to find, catch and land it
Here's the fish story
Martin Tuna and I (eddie fishtaco) went fishing towards Ensenada
out of San Diego, our plan was to fish all day and leave the boat at Ensenada,
but we had to change plans..[
south of the 425 we saw some action http://i387.photobucket.com/albums/oo320/eddiefishtaco/estela.jpg
and a 30# albacore hit a dorado cedar plug, nice fight,
the fish went under the boat, but we managed to get it out
and into the cooler, after that we found dry kelp, nada

the wind picked up and the swell increased,
so we moved east, closer to land, then it hit...
the right outrigger got knocked down,
Matin was near and got the reel quick, then we saw it jumping
Marlin! Marlin!
it hit a tuna feather made by TOP GUN lures LOL
in purple, red and ..Pink! LOL
Martin was quick to reel it in,
with years on offshore experience,
the Tuna-man got the marlin closer to the boat, in 20 min., 40 pound P-LINE
and the fish was bleeding badly, we have to take it before the blood
attracks a shark, and I got the gaff (flying gaf)
so I gafted the marling above the fin, pulled the handle and let the rope free,
then Martin used the handle gaff to kill it and hooked it at the jugular,
(to save the beattings with the bat )LOL
then I opened the marlin door and brought the Marlin in.
Martin said, we have to go back to San Diego and weight the marlin
at the club, is ok with me i said, we'll come back for tuna another day
so we went back to San Diego and got there at 4 pmhttp://i387.photobucket.com/albums/oo320/eddiefishtaco/eddiemarlinmartin.jpg
the guys at the club were very happy and fired a cannon
took some pictures and called the cook
to come over and take the marlin to be smoked
it weighted 104.6 pounds, nice for a striped marlin
