trout are alot of work and die easy u would need a chiller for the summer heat and some serious pumps to create current which would be expensive but doable if u got the cash.

make it deep and plenty of cover to protect them from the sun and raccoons. The chiller is going to be pretty expensive, 5000 BTU for up to 400 gallons is going to be over $1000. I've never seen one specifically made for an outdoor pond though

You will need a pond of 1000 gallons or better
lots of water flow

I used a 3000 gallon pond and circulated the water twice an Hour and also had a bubbler in the pond
I had Brown trout in mine and they handled the heat pretty well
The rainbows about 1/2 would die in the summer
I had no cooler but it would have helped
I gave up a few years ago went with koi

Also Check with fish and game in your area about having game fish
The DFg did not seem to care if I purchased the trout from a trout farm
Game fish taken from a lake and transporting them may be a different story??

If you are in Moreno valley Beware of the HERONS!!
