The 59Th Annual Los Angeles Rod and Reel club Kids Trip is now in the books.I want to thank Cow Paddy, Russ88, Hitts, Flyingby and his son Brad, for giving a day to help the kids.

Sorry I did not have a camera, but I will be posting soon, as I am sure Russ, Flyingby, and Hitts will as well.

This year we had invited 230 kids from disadvantaged homes, they came form Pomona, Downtown, and Santa Clarita.

Sunday the hardcore volunteers met at Pierpoint about 6PM to get things ready. We rigged almost 300 rods for the kids, then enjoyed a feast compliments of Chef Paul, of White Sea Bass, Yellowtail, Halibut, Tri Tip, BBQ Chicken, Salads, Ceveche, Cake, Wine and more. All right on the boardwalk, while taking in the sights and sounds of the area, and creating a forum where many came to learn about who we were, and what we do. The night was perfect, never dropped below 70. This was a real relief from the triple digits we left in Chatsworth a few hours before.

By 10PM, we had finished, and were grabbing bunks on the Tornado, some fished including Cow Paddy and Fishyboy. At 5AM we started our day with a breakfast compliments of Chef Paul, and started loading the boats.

For the trip we had charted the Tornado, City of Long Beach, The So Cal and the Enterprise. They were loaded with rods, tackle, drinks, burgers, hot dogs, candy, and more candy. Soon their mobile lab museum form Long Beach State University arrived and set up touch tanks and interactive displays for the kids. We even attracted the local media, from Fox news, KTLA, and others.

Not long after, the kids began to arrive by the bus load; they ate, viewed the lab, and soon boarded the boats to hit Huntington Flats, after a quick stop at the bait barge. When we set anchor, the kids were ready, as Flying By had already got some kids their first fish at the Bait Barge. We had live and dead Squid, and trout size Sardines.

The Dines were the ticket, and for the next hour+ we had a wide open Barracuda fest. The were LOGS, BIG FAT SLIME STICKS! The kids were delighted to catch these toothy critters, and most reveled in the fight these fish provided. The action was non stop, and while we lost many a fish, the bags were getting full quick.

All the while, the burgers, hot dogs, and cookies poured out of the galley, thanks to our hard working volunteers.

Before long it was time to head back toi the docks, where the kids collected their trophy, more snacks, and the fish fillets. I was on the Tornado, and Capt’n Ray, and the crew were awesome, I really cant say enough about the boat and its crew.

After the kids left, those who still had energy returned to the Tornado for an afternoon bite, but I will have to leave that to Flying By as Fishyboy had been feeling under the weather since Sunday, and we headed home with Hitts, who chose not to fish…But that a story for Hitts to tell.
The kids all had a great day, there were handshakes and hugs from many of the kids. I really love this event, and started planning for next year.

Thanks again for the support of Team 57/FNN, you helped make the event the success it is.

Anyone wanting more information about our club, activites, and charitable foundation can contact me.

Born a fisherman. He landed 7 cudas on his own. I buttoned down the drag on his 7th cuda. He was still able to grind em in. I asked if he was done after that. his reply was "hurry up go get me another one we have 5 min. left". This kid fishes hard!!

Scott,

Thanks for the invite to help!

Brad and I had a great time with the kids and the LARRC Members we met today!

Missed a lot of great pics today as things were a little busy on board once we hit the fishing grounds! I was glad to see the Slime Sticks were cooperating for some drag burning experiences on the light tackle for the kids!!!!

Leaving the Harbor.

All enjoyed some Sea Dog sightings!

Others loved the Queen Mary and the Pacific Princess Cruise ship!
http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z286/flyngby/CIMG4072.jpg
Having fun on the way to the bait dock!
http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z286/flyngby/CIMG4073.jpg
I had set a strategy with my new friend Giovanni to get him on his first fish at the Bait Docks! When he pulled the first Croaker over the rail he got the attention of the other kids who were watching bait being loaded and the scramble for poles and cut squid was on!
http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z286/flyngby/CIMG4074.jpg
He did not like the idea of sticking his fingers in the mouth of his catch for the pic so I did the honor for him on his first ever fish!

http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z286/flyngby/CIMG4075.jpg
As soon as it began the boat was loaded with bait as well as dozens of Croaker and some got to experience their first Mac Attack! Smiles were on all as we had to leave the dock for the fishing grounds.

http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z286/flyngby/CIMG4084.jpg
http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z286/flyngby/CIMG4080.jpg
Meanwhile the Deckies were busy cutting up chum and bait!
http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z286/flyngby/CIMG4081.jpg
We had on board entertainment courtesy of the kids!
http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z286/flyngby/CIMG4086.jpg
http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z286/flyngby/CIMG4087-1.jpg
There were lots of "When are we going to get there Questions" and folks just chilling and enjoying the ride.
http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z286/flyngby/CIMG4088.jpg
There were moments of getting over the fear of handling a fish!
http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z286/flyngby/CIMG4090.jpg
http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z286/flyngby/CIMG4091.jpg
I stood by and watched the "Who could throw the like bait the highest and get the flying Seagull to catch it before it hit the water contest". Sorry was so amused forgot to take pictures.

Here is a pic of "We are more than ready to fish shot"!
http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z286/flyngby/CIMG4093.jpg
Our entertainer on the way out with a nice Log!
http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z286/flyngby/CIMG4097.jpg
I lost count how many this young girl landed with the assistance of the "On the Spot Deckies"!
http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z286/flyngby/CIMG4096.jpg
The kid’s staffers joined the action also with yet another stripped bait!
http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z286/flyngby/CIMG4098.jpg
But eventually Bloody’d the deck with a nice Log!
http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z286/flyngby/CIMG4094.jpg
It was all over as way too soon and we were headed in with folks chatting about their day, putting another cheeseburger down the hatch and some were in dream land!
http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z286/flyngby/CIMG4099.jpg
http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z286/flyngby/CIMG4101.jpg
http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z286/flyngby/CIMG4100.jpg
And there was the dismantling of the previous nights hard setup work by the Volunteers!
http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z286/flyngby/CIMG4102.jpg
And the cleaning with lots of Slime to fill several large ice chests for the kids to take home!
http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z286/flyngby/CIMG4103.jpg

Very nice guys, my hat goes off to all of you that gave of yourself and helped the kid’s out !

My heart goes out to those kids and I know they’ll have that lasting memory for a lifetime : )

Sorry I couldn’t make this one, I could not get off work this time otherwise I’d have been there to see those smilin’ faces personally !

Those kids faces tell the whole story, what a great thing to have and I have a big place in my heart for the LARRC for sponsoring this event each year.

As I’ve mentioned before, it’s not just the kids that win here, each angler comes away with a pronounced warm feeling that can only happen when you give of yourself, the kids happiness is such an awesome gift to receive.

I applaud everyone again and hats off to each angler and to each of those wonderful kids : )

Looks like a wonderful day at sea !
Sorry I had ta miss it : (

P.S.

More log pics please : )
