Returned from a 2 day charter on the Blue Horizon out of H&M Landing. This was one of those weekends where most of the SD boats caught only a few tuna at best on 1.5 to 2 day trips.
We only had 3 albies on board by saturday afternoon, so the decision was to either troll forever looking for tuna or go inshore towards the kelp beds off Ensenada. We decided to go inshore and ended up catching quite a few short ling cod, a few nice size calico's (up to 8 lbs), some good size rock fish, some smaller johnny bass, and a few nice sized sheepshead.
It was a hard decision to make, but Capt. Jim had been talking to most of the SD boats and little to no tuna were on the bite, so we thought some other fish was better than no tuna for sundays count.
Capt Jim, Chef Gary, second mate(I forgot his name), and deck hand Sparky all did a great job trying to get the 11 of us on fish. Great crew !
Well, that's tuna fishing....either hit or miss, better luck next time.
