With the advice of Skyler and a few others, I wanted to take a friend of mine fishing up at SAR. We went to an area that was recommended by Skyler, and it worked out alright! It was a flop in the sense that we did not catch our target fish (some dinner 'bows!), but we did catch on to a greater prize! The Brown trout! He was fishing with power worms and Salmon eggs while I worked the power worm with an occasional fly when the brush would allow. Anyways, we worked at least 2 miles of stream for 10 fish between the two of us. I caught 5 Browns from 5-9 inches and two tiny wild 'bows which won me the quantity trophy; however, my friend only caught 3 Browns, but he won the quality trophy. His smallest fish was 6 inches and he caught a 12 inch Brown! Pretty big for that place! What was cool was that he had never fished a creek before! And not a bad day for a rookie! He was stoked to catch them and I was glad that I was able to get him hooked up in some fish. Although we were going for some food, the stockers eluded us. But all in all, it was a great day. Weather was perfect, water was cold, and the fish were biting!

First fish of the day!

Same fish, but with me!

Soon after, my friend hooks up!

Then a few minutes later, I nailed one!

Although the score is 2-1, my friend counters with the fish of the day! Beginner's luck.... I'm holding the fish only because he was about 5 feet above me and I was nearest to the fish.

The man and his fish. Hope he doesn't get mad that I posted his pic.

I got another one about 20 minutes after his.

1 of 2 rainbows caught today. The other one I caught was smaller than this one and it flopped out of my hand right as I turned on the camera.

Ah, I love this place.

Last fish caught on the spinning gear.

Hah, this little guy right here had no chance! I was fishing a beadhead in a deep little pool. I had a feeling there was something in there. I fished it for about minutes. As we were getting ready to leave, I made one last cast into the pool. Right as I went to pull the line out of the water, BAM! This little guy hits. But since the line's momentum is towards me, this little guy came along for the ride! He flew about 10 feet in the air, but I caught it just in time so it wouldn't hit the rocks! It was pretty comical! But this was my first fish on the nymph! So I'll be taking a trip to another creek (which probably doesn't have many fish) soon because I'm becoming a lot more confident with the fly!

Ah, the ever-funny "troutapult." One of the funnier moments in fly fishing. I once launched a 6"er thirty feet behind me with a double haul, lol! Good job up there, guys. Glad you got onto some fish. Hit me up when you are ready for the good creeks, he he.

Yeah, a flop all right . It goes to show you that every cloud has a silver lining. Nice job.

Ah yes the ol flying trout trick. Never know how big it's gonna be so never know how hard to set the hook!

I once hooked what felt like a very small trout. More accurately, the trout hooked itself, I never set the hook. As I reeled the fish close to shore, I was able to see that indeed the fish was small -about the same size as the streamer fly it was attached to –roughly three inches long. Just as I was about ready to land the “guppy”, a large trout darted out from cover and rushed towards the little fish like lightning. I was so startled by this event that, for some reason, I panicked and yanked the little fish clean out of the water just a microsecond before it became a midmorning snack for Moby Dick. The little fish sailed through the air in a large arc and landed in a grassy area behind me. I quickly retrieved, unhooked and released the little fish, all the time wondering if its little fishy brain comprehended how lucky it was.

 That's pretty good! The fish went for a ride, but that ride saved his life!

I was at that creek that I said I would go to, and there was not much water!
:Embarrassed:

I only managed 1 stocker!
