The wife and I went to the beach to have a date to celebrate our 9th anniversary, so of course I had to bring along a couple of rods along (Yea I know, forever the romantic.)http://i497.photobucket.com/albums/rr340/greenbean122061/013.jpg It was a picture perfect day. Turquoise water, blue skies and an out going tide. http://i497.photobucket.com/albums/rr340/greenbean122061/024-2.jpg I tried one spot when we got there, but there was a lot of loose salad in the water and a pain in the butt to fish around. I moved down the beach a couple hundred yards and got bit three times on one cast. So I said to myself: Self, this is the place. We moved the chairs and ice chest and got settled in and I went back to casting. http://i497.photobucket.com/albums/rr340/greenbean122061/017.jpg First cast out and I was hooked up on the drop shot morf grub with Pro-Cure Calico Cocktail. I caught and landed the first corbina I've caught in 10 years. http://i497.photobucket.com/albums/rr340/greenbean122061/014.jpg A little guy, but still a corbina! It's been a long time. After that the fishing died out and it was all about me and my honey. http://i497.photobucket.com/albums/rr340/greenbean122061/023.jpg We spent the rest of the day making googly eyes at each other and playing in the sand and surf. Oh yea; where are we you may ask? Crystal Cove State Beach, I may answer. This place is truly a gem. Clear water, blue skies, no crowds and singing birds. http://i497.photobucket.com/albums/rr340/greenbean122061/026.jpg When we were ready for dinner we drove up to New Port Pier and went to Mutt Lynch's. That place is pretty cool. I always meet someone really down to earth and nice. This time we met The drummer from Whitesnake. He is now a session drummer and doing gigs with Missing Persons and other 80's bands. A really cool, down to earth dude. After a walk on the beach and a gelato it was time to go home. What a beautiful day with my beautiful wife.http://i497.photobucket.com/albums/rr340/greenbean122061/004.jpg P.S. Kim doesn't let me post non-approved pics of her, so no pics at the beach.

Now that's what I call a great anniversary... very nice looking beach to surf fish.

That would be a Yellow Fin Croaker you got there sir... feisty little fighters. Funny looking Surf Perch your wife got there though, I can't seem to identify that particular species.

That place is awesome i dive that area quite often, let me tell u there are some monster halibuts all over that area. u see that mountain to the left of the road, thats a mountain bikers paradise, i tried to make that ride once and puked about half way up and thought i was dying. Mountain biking is not a fat borracho man sport.

Thank you all for the kind words. Wingnut, thanks for the correction. I wasn't too sure about it when I saw the stripes. Still, its been about 10 years since I've caught anything but perch in the surf. You're on the money about those guys being hard fighters. Really good fight for a fish that goes less than a pound.
Ryryk, it is a blue gill. That picture was taken on an afternoon session a couple weeks ago. Kim didn't like any of the pics of her from Tuesday, so I won't post them. I really like that one so I posted it.
Calico Killer Kevin, are you saying that you figured out that that is not us in that pic or you cant figure out were this beach is? The beach is Crystal Cove State Beach. Just south of Corona Del Mar. The part of the beach we are on is the southern part, that is the section of beach south of the area with all the cool beach houses. If you've ever been there, you know what I'm talking about. The pic is looking south and that is P.C.H. in the background. As for the couple in the pic, I have no idea who they are. Kim thought they looked "sweet", so she snapped a picture... Lets call my use of it "artistic license".
Captain Boracho, I can relate to the whole fat boracho man sport thing. My idea of a workout involves 12oz curls with occasional 1oz reps.
Santa Fe Eric, You are a person with beautiful words. Your post about you and your dad at the Team 57 event really touched my heart. Keep spreadin' the love..

Nah man, the hot chicks at 3:00 haha. Love that stretch of beach as well and have gotten rocked by some big fish there, so they're out there. Some resident calicos around those rocks as well.
