Catfish size hooks?

Quick ? Whats the best size of a treble hook for catfish. Seen some huge ones that come in a catfish package @ wal mart. Heading out to lake irvine. So what would be the average size treble hook or any other hook for catfish?

I'm gunna say (WITH CONFIDENCE) a 6 or 8 treb. and a FAT chunk of fresh mack or shrimp SOAKED in garlic and salt.... :Twisted:

Thx i actually was thinking about that size 8 when i seen it but w so much bigger treble hooks i was confused what to go w/.

really? i've been using size 1 or 2 mosquito hooks... arent the treble's a pain on the cats?

Treble ? I have never used those hooks for CATFISH.

I use a very large bait J hook.

Think Ocean fishing.

I use treble hooks for cats because they hold the bait on better,especially if you have special treat for them.

wow! Im totally suprised to see nobody mention the best hook. Circle hooks. Trust me. I personal use owner mutu or gamakatsu nautilus circle hooks.
Usually a size 2 ---2/0, or whatever size is appropriate.

Is keeping the bait on the hook is a problem.

I've also heard of guys using panty hose and twisty ties to "bag" and tie-up their liver and stinky bait....

I got some left over anchovies do cats bite on anchovies and i also got some trout guts would be good bait for the cats. Thx for all your tips!

trout is illegal unfortuantely. chovies work, but spend the 3 bucks for a frozen whole makeral and cut 1" cubes as necessary. or spen 15 mins the night before tying livers.
