The June 27th 2009 Campfire fishing seminar went off without a hitch.

It was a great success and everyone learned how to fish, tie knots and learned about misc rigs and how to set them up.
How to hold fish etc.

I lectured on all facets of panfish fishing and related topics

Turnout was fair 28-30 people, not my record breaking turnout like the last one but everyone enjoyed themselves and even got a few prizes to boot.

Everyone left with something, one lucky kid got a brand new pole and reel feelthe steel style.

He also received personal casting lessons
http://i307.photobucket.com/albums/nn284/garywuebben/June2009campfiretalkw-gary001.jpg

One kid was so into it, I ended up giving him one of my personal rods and reels that I had brought for a demo (I’m a pushover for a smiling face !)

Everyone had fun and some were just a tad skeptical at first..
http://i307.photobucket.com/albums/nn284/garywuebben/June2009campfiretalkw-gary008.jpg

BUT in NO TIME ! they were joining in all the fun !
http://i307.photobucket.com/albums/nn284/garywuebben/June2009campfiretalkw-gary010.jpg

I made up an 8 page instructional that all could take a copy of and fall back on and review in case they did not remember the how to’s…

I look forward to seeing everyone at the next one.

I’m looking into doing an adult version of these seminars where I’ll take everyone down to the water and actually fish for 30 minutes or so so everyone gets a 1st hand experience.

Till the next one,
Take Care !

Not totally clear on the business part of your statement, I think you left something out but if your offering to donate something for the kids for the next one, PLEASE DO.

Let me know either in this thread or a pm, doesnt matter but let's always remember the kids, thats where the love of the sport begins : )

Thanks for your interest : )
Thanks,
Gary

Gary! You are a good man!

Thanks for sharing your wonderful work with us here on FNN! I'm sure these kids and parents will never forget the day they spent with "feel the steel". If people like you were around my neighborhood when I was a kid it might not have taken me until I was 35 years old before I was able partake in this fine sport of fishing.

Peace!

Eric

Great post Gary, love reading about this kind of stuff.

Irvine Lake last year!

Thanks my friend, it's all a very humbling experience and if I inspire 1 kid then my job has been done, this particular day I beleive I reached several or one could only hope.

For anyone considering vollunteering for any type of kids events:

Don't even think about it any longer, JUST DO IT !

It's a win win win situation, those kids are our future, get them into fishing, show them the pure joy, satisfaction and sense of ackomplishments it brings forth.

It really does bring out the best in all of us and it above and beyond all, helps to keep the kids out of trouble in many ways.

AND, I Guarantee each individual that helps will end up leaving a richer man in their heart.

Thanks for the aknowledgement, sometimes I feel like I might be boring people with this sort of thing but it's something good and something great and we all benifit from each smile we bring to this world..

"A smile is contagious !"

A while back, I decided that this sport of fishing has been so good to me and I have been blessed with good fortune in my fishing escapades that it's time that I gave back.

I could only hope that this post may encourage a few more that may want to help in the future too.

I will also be doing a fishing clinic when they have the 3 day Castaic Days event coming up in a month or 2.

Who knows, I may be soliciting a few experienced FNN'rs to help me man that booth, we'll see.

Thank you for the responses, those families were great : )

P.S.
Not certain about the traveling striper from irvine unless your reffering to the cooler of stripes Hiro and I brought there to the legends event.
We did bring 20 of them I beleive last year

BUT I brought 2 nice stripers out at this campfire talk that I caught the night b4, everyone woo'd when they came out of the cooler and everyone had a chance to touch and see their quarry up close and personal, I thought it was a nice personal experience for them, I'll bet they remember it : )

Not boring at all, very inspiring in fact and made me think of the times I am out at the local park/lake and the littles ones start to gather around....kids seems naturally drawn to the water especially when there is a fishing pole, let alone when a flopping fish involved!

Feel free to hit me up if you need any help for future events, helping with instruction, manning a booth etc. I think we get similar joy out of helping people get on fish, quite honestly I get as much pleasure helping someone catch a fish as I do catching one myself...prolly sounds kinda wierd to some I'm sure.

I think bringing the fish was a great touch and a perfect idea...and yeah I was referring to the stripers you and Hiro brought to LegendsII, man those things are tasty!

Hope to see you out on the water this summer,

Good stuff, I'll keep you posted as I get things locked in for the fishing clinic, it will still be a little while away.

I'll also be demonstrating striper jig tying and many other things.

They'll also have the "virtual fishing" game onsite, I'm going to try to tie that booth to mine.

That game is REALLY cool, the next closest thing to actually fishing, you use a fishing pole, reel, line and a big screen dispay, you cast, work the lure, see the fish strike and you battle it and have to work the fish left and right to land 'em....sweet !

Keep up the good work, and let us know when and where the next one is.

No I was talking about the stripers Gary and Hiro brought to the Legends event last year that were eventually thrown on the grill....you're right btw, Gary is an accomplished fisherman, a good guy with a big heart and an asset to the board.
