After seeing how nice the weather was, my friend andrew and i decided to take the boat out for the afternoon... After catching some macks for bait in the harbor (our aerator stopped working on us so we couldnt get live bait :( ) We shot over towards the hill like last time to try our luck... when we first got there the water was 66 degrees and the bite was dead, granted we only had cut mackerel for bait. A little while later one of my rods i set out started ripping drag like no other... i grabbed it and I wasn't down with losing all my line so i cranked the drag up and turned the sucker around and after 10 minutes of getting worked i hauled in this fella who barely fit in the net...

It was one of the best fights ive ever gotten out of a fish... definitely a lot of fun.

I gave it another hour and ended up with his older brother... who COULDNT fit in the net

Can anybody give me estimates on the weights of these 2? i left my scale at home and i honestly cant determine... maybe 20-30 lbs?

A little while later, the water temp went up to 67 and that must have woken up the bass or something b/c every cast was a fish or a strike...

Of course then we got a call from my friends dad demanding that we get back b/c he had stuff to do, so we had to leave just as things were getting good... but still it was a fun/semi-productive day

FYI.... ALL fish were released to fight another day, even though those sand bass looked ready to make some good fish tacos, i figured they need to spawn and make more for years to come.

Tight lines to all!

Around 20lb for the first one and maybe 40lbs on the second one.

Good job on the fish!

The weights of those fish seem about right. Man do the bat rays and sting rays put on a fight! Cool report! Those sandies were good size fish too.
