Since my buddy is fairly new to catching the exotics the last few weeks I been showing him who's boss. Since I changed up my tackle a bit he finally had me beat more like slaughtered LoL'z it hurt my feelings a little but I'm glad he had his A game on. As for me it seem to me more like my C- game.

Short report:

Hit the Island got the yellows:

Me: 1 yellowtail, 1 leopard shark, 1 sheephead, 1 sculpin, 1 salmon grouper, 4 calicos

My buddy: 6 yellows, 1 salmon grouper

Buddys wife: 0

Long Report;

We oped to get to the Island for the Grey light bite again didn't make it for the Grey light bite but we got there earlier than we normal 6:15am was our arrival time Friday morning. Last week there was only a few boats out I guess the word got out so the fleet was there in full force about 30 or so boats in the Armada. As soon as we were anchored up ( 130' of water, Reverse dropper loop/Squid)our buddy boat next to us was bendo X 3 within the first 5 min he never hit the yellows before so dumped all three. Just about every boat around us was doubled over it was pandemonium! We were just sitting tight patiently awaiting our turn. Then they breezed through all 4 rods were screaming ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ.........!! 3 hooks stuck the three of us do the offshore shuffle Mine comes to color, since everyone else was bendo I had to gaff my own fish. The gaff was not pulled out straight so I had a little trouble pulling it out 3 trys later yellow on board. The other two ran into the anchor 1 popped the other was still wrapped I pull the anchor so we could get it unwrapped it worked out stuck the second yellow. 15min 2 yellows on board.

We look around just about every boat around us was still bent the Amigo was parked right next to us and they had 4 going at once. Freedom was down current they had 3 or 4 going and all the other PB had at least 1 going. Little did I know this was going to be my last bite of the trip. I ran out of Seagaur 30lb flouro so I used my some old flour I had in my bag. Max leader 30lb flouro in which I found out Max Leader Flouro is the crappiest Flouro I've used and will never use it again I rather use mono. I didn't think much of it until I was on the way back contemplating what I did I do wrong.

We'll as the day goes on my buddy's rod continue to get hit Double hookup, triple hookup, double hookup, and the yellow will not touch my bait WTF.... When his rods were double hooked up I assisted him to reel up a couple of his fish half way, he then pops off his fish and I did the hook and hand with the one I was reeling since it was his other rod. If it was not my rod and I didn't reel it from the beginning to end its not my fish. My Buddy likes to fish with too many rods at once due to that unfortunately he lost his brand new Calstar 700m/Accurate setups. I think it was because line got wrapped around the tip of his rod I heard a clicker go off turned around then saw his rod in mid air when it took a dunk. What a sacrifice to the fish gods but he still got rewarded by all the yellows he caught.

The bite went on for almost 2 hours at one point there was a full foamer of a couple hundred yellows under a Private boat off our bow it was nuts you should of seen the look on their face. They only had 1 rod flylined the other were on the bottom. They stuck one I never seen anything like that before. We ended the day with 5 yellows I busted off 1 landed 1, my buddy busted off about 5 landed 4. Man he got bit about 10 times I only got hit 2 times. Who said Flouro does not make a difference? I beg to differ

We decided to leave home that evening but the weather was pretty snotty so we decided back to the island to spend the night and fish Saturdays am bite. In the morning when we headed back to the spot OMG there had to be about 50-60 boats out the bite slowed down drastically due to the boat pressure and the Squid boats wrapping all the squid up. The bite went on for about an hour and the fish disappeared. I hope there is some squid left the weeks to come. My buddy still oped to land 2 more yellows Saturday morning before we left me not even a bite.

All I got to say is this trip I got owned but am happy since I still got a Yellow and a PB Leopard Shark.

The Yellows are getting more active I've been seeing more surface activity I think within a couple weeks the yellows would be on the fin bait and start hitting the surface Iron. We only took a couple pics this week here ya go

Nice fish! Too bad about your buddies set up, a small price to pay for an epic trip. Great job putting your buddy on those fish!
