Almost Got My Limit @ Castaic Upper Lake Today

Woke up around 4:30 am me, my girl and her friend decided to head up Castaic Lake for 4th of July to get some stripers. Got there just in time for them to open the gate and everyone has to pay $25.00 fee to get in. I thought it’s going to be packed at the lake but I was wrong. I only saw a few fishermen. Anyway, I went straight to my old spot. It was WFO early in the morning. I got a lot of hit but kept missing setting up the hook for about 20 times because I was too far from my rods talking to my girl and her friend. However I managed to land 9 stripers today. All were caught on Sardines.

damn PJ... nice job man. spending $25 at castaic would scare me because i don't have the skills you do :) i'm going to head out there again soon and see if i can get something bigger than the dinks i got last time.

nice job on the stripers. The family and I also visited castaic on July 4th, we departed the dock at 630am and got the our spot and by 9am had 15 strippers. I only saw five other boats fishing the area and all had five on.
The wife got the biggest fish and the kids had a great time fighting the small ones with the light set up poles. No pics but great times only.

Timing and patient are the best tips I can give you right now. I only use sardines for Castaic Upper Lake. I don't know about other fishermen. They probably use something else. I saw some guys caught stripers on BBZ and Lunker Punker. I don't know how to work those lures yet but I'm working on it. Hopefully that one day I can be as good as those guys. Just keep practice! I'm telling myself everyday. I might catch a big striper on one of those lures one day. I might!!!!! :LOL:

I guess I got lucky that day cause I brought my girl along that's why. :LOL: Anyway, I got a few KPN lures sitting at home and I'm gonna use it (Rat-L-Trp) at Lake Powell on my boat trip on July 29th through Ausgust 1st.
