Left early thursday morning for a "quick trip" to Catalina for another shot at a seabass. Picked up a nice load of squid from San Pedro Bait Co. and made it to the backside by 5:30. Started off at the V's, nothing but a few calicos around. Went to Ben Weston and got a few more calicos but nothing the right kind.
Wind started picking up early so I decided to give the frontside a last shot then head home before it gets too snotty. Fished the scout camp area for lots more calicos in the 10-11 inch class. Pulled anchor at 12:30 and started back home, got about 1 mile offshore and it is a good 15 knot wind and snotty. The best I could do was 10kt and I didnt feel like taking a 2 1/2 hour beating so I turned back around to the island and called the GF and told her I'm spending the night at Catalina because of the weather (I dont think that went well).

Found the Patriot anchored up near Long Point so I settled next to her.

Flylined a squid out and within minutes got a hard run. Set the hook and the battle was on. After about 10 minutes I sunk the gaff into a nice 14 pound YT. All the commotion attracted the attention of the Limitless who pulled up next to me and after several attempts at getting that big girl to stick on the anchor, got a couple YT as well.

I got one more good hit about an hour later but I wasnt ready and the bait pulled off the hook before I could get to it. After that it turned into wide open little calicos and perch. Decided to save the rest of my bait for the morning bite and crashed out early for the night. Morning came and i fished a couple more hours but could not find the YT. Cleaned my tail and one 14 inch calico that I kept. Left the island at 7am and had a smooth 18-20kt ride all the way home. GF is still mad but the hamachi was awesome.
