What an amazing place.... I love it here, and plan many returns. So after 15 years of marriage, I finally convinced my wife to go on a long-term fishing trip with me. We had a great drive up, took our time and stopped at Fossil Falls, and Manzanar, stopped for all the local fishing tips, checked into our room and called it a night. Early next morn, we took advantage of the free continental breakfast at the hotel, and shot up line street to get at the trout. we hit Bishop Creek first, and found a pool with quite a few fish that did not want to eat... finally were able to entice them with a single salmon egg on an egg hook, and it was on. most holes were holding fish. (plan on hitting the creek up for gold panning tomorrow after I fish the lower Owens as well). No pics from the creek.. srry.

Next up was South Lake. I thought about fishing from shore, but then I decided to just grab a half day rental, and head back to the inlet. It started off slow, and, I caught a couple of small brookies. I decided to make a move over to the main water inlet, and it paid off... It was slam city.. My wife and I caught fish all the rest of the day there, at one point I switched only to fly's with the barbs pushed down so we could make easy releases after our limit, which was only six fish as we had kept four of our creek fish. The hot bait was really pretty much anything you could drop on the other side of the current and drag back to the boat. I liked using a black and gold Panther martin, as well as the black ant fly.
.....
......
I am Headed to the lower Owens in the morn to try to find a decent brown. I have three more days here, so I will keep this thread updated. Here are some pics. Oh by the way we had a sandwich at Schats Bakery today, the took a short walk and in the creek right there by the hotel next to Schats were four browns that had to go 3+ easy. lol.. I wonder if you can fish there...
