HESBROS

Got up this morning and made adeal with my boys, I would take them to the beach to boogie board and play as long as we fished until the sun came out from behind the clouds. I decided I wanted to check out some new ground by foot and we were off to Corona Del Mar.
We arrived there at 1030 and went over to the harbor side where the coves are with the caves? Not sure if it is Pirates Cove. Tried a few casts in there and not much going on and there we kids starting to go play in the water so we left that area.
We stopped on top of the rocks for a quick picture.

I wanted to check out the rocks that form the east side of the NPH channel near the bait barge. So we walked on the cement path above the rocks. Stopped at a place I liked and made a cast. When I made the cast, I told the boys "you watch, I am gonna catch something big here and we wont be able to get it up", the walkway is about 4 feet above the rocks and water. It is fishable from the rocks, but not with the little guys. Anyways, a few cranks and twitches on the D/S and bam! Hook up, taking drag! Crappppp! I knew it was a flattie by the hit and the fight. As I am in the fight, I am looking around for a place to get down and land it. I had my promar collapsable folding net, but it only extends about 3 ft.
Got her to color and I was impressed and we snapped a pic not knowing how long we had:Shocked:....uh oh

The battle continued with short runs and me looking for a place to make this work. There were no options either direction I looked for at least 50ft.
So I had her laying there nice and calm and snapped a better picture.

She was as calm as could be, so I decided I would hand line her up off the rocks. It almost worked, about 12 inched from the edge she started thrashing and broke the 8lb line.
I would guesstimate that she was at least 26 inches, maybe a little more, and she had some pretty colors.
After that we went to where the walk way ends and the jetty begins. There is a small break wall that extends from the Jetty out towards the Harbor entrance side that forms a little cove. In this area we were able to get down on the rocks.
Anthony threw out his swimmy bait and got a bendo on a halibut, maybe 16-17 incher, we got her in the net and I went to take her out for a pic, I grabbed the lead head, she started flopping and came off the hook before we got a pic. Here is why!

What the heck, it was not like that when he casted, and I dont think she was big enough to do that, but who knows.
We called it a day of fishing shortly after that and we were on the beach by 1230 and the boys went boogie boarding and I contemplated all the things I could have done differently.
Now I know how you felt a few weeks ago Steve!
