Sorry it took me so long to post part deuce, but I needed Jeff's pics, and plus work has gotten in the way a bit.... So here it is:

Southlake

Dockside, we were pleasantly surprised to see Dana & Donna laying it to the trout across from the dock. As we waited for our boat, Donna hooks a nice one and Dana mans the release. Sorry for the crappy picture friends (time for a new camera), but here are the ones I did take…

Go Dana!

Sorry, I didn’t really get the fish, but I got the action!

http://i96.photobucket.com/albums/l191/gregmadrigal/Sierras%2009/P6194458.jpg

Jeff manned the motor so I could duck the cold wind at the bow! THANKS JEFF!!! LOL!

http://i96.photobucket.com/albums/l191/gregmadrigal/Sierras%2009/P6194459.jpg

Priceless views from the bow:

http://i96.photobucket.com/albums/l191/gregmadrigal/Sierras%2009/P6194460.jpg

We got to our spot and the weather couldn’t have been nicer. I immediately went for the fly rod, and never put it down the rest of the day!

http://i96.photobucket.com/albums/l191/gregmadrigal/Sierras%2009/Jeffs%20pics/DSCF0035.jpg

The action was fast and hot!
Me at my ‘spot’:

http://i96.photobucket.com/albums/l191/gregmadrigal/Sierras%2009/Jeffs%20pics/DSCF0038.jpg

This one sucked down a dry caddis fly:

http://i96.photobucket.com/albums/l191/gregmadrigal/Sierras%2009/P6194461.jpg

This one liked the wooly bugger!

http://i96.photobucket.com/albums/l191/gregmadrigal/Sierras%2009/Jeffs%20pics/DSCF0040.jpg

I know the hat’s gay, but I HAD TO keep the sun off me from day 1’s assault!

http://i96.photobucket.com/albums/l191/gregmadrigal/Sierras%2009/Jeffs%20pics/DSCF0042.jpg

Jeff got in the action too with this pig:

http://i96.photobucket.com/albums/l191/gregmadrigal/Sierras%2009/P6204465.jpg
http://i96.photobucket.com/albums/l191/gregmadrigal/Sierras%2009/P6204466.jpg

So this is Jeff’s first time fishing trout. He’s a musky man from the North. He was REALLY IMPRESSED with those lil red balls that work “really good!” (Salmon eggs!:)
LOL!!!!
So he kicks it up a notch by catching this nice lil golden. The color looks washed out in the pic, but it was a golden!! You can see the parr marks a bit. They were more noticeable in real life.

http://i96.photobucket.com/albums/l191/gregmadrigal/Sierras%2009/Jeffs%20pics/DSCF0041.jpg

He caught tons on eggs right where the creek dumped into the lake…

http://i96.photobucket.com/albums/l191/gregmadrigal/Sierras%2009/P6204469.jpg

A nice lil Brookie....For the Sierra trout tri-fecta!!! Nice work Jeff!

http://i96.photobucket.com/albums/l191/gregmadrigal/Sierras%2009/P6204480.jpg

I’m not sure of the name of this fly, but it killed them! I only had 2 and finally went through them along with 10-15 other this day!

http://i96.photobucket.com/albums/l191/gregmadrigal/Sierras%2009/P6204470.jpg

Here’s a close up…

Another nice one 4 me…The color of these fish was off the charts!!

Same fish…
http://i96.photobucket.com/albums/l191/gregmadrigal/Sierras%2009/P6204478.jpg

A different one…

http://i96.photobucket.com/albums/l191/gregmadrigal/Sierras%2009/P6204484.jpg

If you look closely you might be able to see fish in the next few pics. I worked this pool on the far side (the one that’s barely 2’ in diameter in front of a rock) and caught a beauty of a fish

http://i96.photobucket.com/albums/l191/gregmadrigal/Sierras%2009/P6204485.jpg
Her’es that sweet fish-Check the colors!

http://i96.photobucket.com/albums/l191/gregmadrigal/Sierras%2009/Jeffs%20pics/DSCF0033.jpg

You can see fish in this pool- They were thick in the creek! ALL FISH CPR’D!!!! (Catch, Photographed & Released)

http://i96.photobucket.com/albums/l191/gregmadrigal/Sierras%2009/P6204486.jpg

I hiked up the creek to see if I could find any pools. I did, but the fish were super small and I didn’t have time to take pics.
The terrain got steeper & more beautiful….

Excellent pics!
Looks like a great trip with many built memories. You guys hooked some good size brookies and wild bows too. Love the net!
Can't wait until I can get back to the Sierras myself.

Greg,

Nice post of an excellent trip! There is a reason they call it Gods country. By the way the brighter colors on the bows like the bright redish pink gills are usually their spawning colors. The colors get very bright and deep.

That fly that "killed it" is an Irresistible Adams. Pretty good fly to immitate both the mayfly or midge. Ultra buoyant fly too... Nice work on all the fly rod trout!!!

Very nice outing. Way to slay 'em on the fly.

My personal favorite dry pattern, BTW. The fly pictured actually looks to be an irrestible-style hair body added on a large midge adams. I don't see the wings. Do you remember if it had wings, or was it all hackle?

Oh yeah, I don't really see wings either. Kind of hard to tell in the pic...

Yep, no wings would make it an irresistable version of a midge adams. Not sure where exactly to purchase it, but you could just trim the wings off an irresistable adams if need be, or a standard midge adam will give you similar results, though it won't float as high. Try the Irresistable Adams in stock configuration first though. You'll be pleasantly suprised, he he.

Hi,
My name is Jesse and I wanted to ask you a few questions in regards to south lake. When driving to Parchers is the road good enough to pull a boat out to Parchers and south lake? 18 feet boat
Where you able to see the lauching ramp at south lake and do you think it will be OK to launch an 18 feet boat?

We are planinig on going up to Parchers Resort in two weeks and that is why I am trying to get as much information as possilbe.

thanks for your help

P.S. Your report was excellent and your pix were stunning. One of the main reson were are trying to go to Parchers.

thanks again.

Hi Jess, I believe you can indeed launch now that the lake has been filling up. The road there is great too, steep, but good. Good luck and thanks for the nice comments.

I will be up there on the 25th which is when I think u will be there too right?

Look for me at my spot and say hi!
