Hello FNN and Team 57!
There are so many people to thank for making this trip special. However, this weekend was about me and my Dad. Therefore, I kept it simple and wrote about my weekend with my dad! I thank everyone! I love team 57!

Just the two of us

You’re my inspiration
I’m your pride
Just the two of us
Driving up the 395
Just the two of us
You and I

http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/kk176/Santafeeric/IMG_1095.jpg
The stereotype of Absentee Father
You proved to be just a myth
So I craft these rhymes over this Grover Washington beat
Just like Will Smith
Only the Fresh Prince was rappin’ to his son
Pops, this is your son rappin’ to you
A little rhyme and flow
To celebrate us two

I remember you walking me to pre-school
My heart full of fear
Eye contact and a pat on the head
Assurance that after school “you’ll be right here”
To pick me right up and hold my hand
To solidify the bond between boy and man

A strong silent type of man
With very few verbals
Only 3 rules from you
Love God, No Gangs, & No Herbals

You were always criticized for being too simple
But your silent presence filled my whole world
Like Clearasil fills a teenager’s pimple
You gave few expectations
And your support was always high
I still remember the day I asked you why
One tear in your eye & you said “you see”
“I had no dad to teach me how to be”
So you only had one goal
You just wanted to be there for me
Now you can rest easy ole man
You made your goal
I applaud you like Nicholson does
When Kobe takes the ball to the hole
That’s why on this trip it’s just the two of us!
http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/kk176/Santafeeric/IMG_1109.jpg
Just the two of us
You’re my inspiration
I’m your pride
Just the two of us
Driving up the 395
Just the two of us
You and I

When I was a teen you always believed the best
You saw past my attitude
The way I stuck out my chest
No ,matter what I seemed to get into
You always stayed the same
Even though I said and did things
That still bring me to shame
Not once did you ever yell
Or call me out my name
I watched you financially
Go through the thick and thin
You are my role model cuz you never gave up
And you gave credit to the Lord when you came back up
You always said you wanted more for me
So you worked an extra shift
On the sixth day to help me to get a degree
“I’ll never forget your sacrifice”
Was my decree
No I’m trying to show you how much you mean to me.

In some families
Marriage can bring on strife
But not with you Pops
You immediately embraced my wife
You treated her
Just like you treat me
So I have the Best of Both Worlds
It’s so clear even Hannah Montana can see!
http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/kk176/Santafeeric/IMG_0462.jpg
So my wife signed the field trip slip
And even charged the fee
So I can spend a few days
Just to show you how much you mean to me
So, for this weekend
It’s just the two of us!

Just the two of us

You’re my inspiration
I’m your pride
Just the two of us
Driving up the 395
Just the two of us
You and I

Loaded you up in the Titan
And hot the 395
North 5 hours to Bishop
Felt like such a short drive
Destination -- the Parchers
Mission -- to keep my vow alive
http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/kk176/Santafeeric/IMG_1097.jpg
Reminiscing with you on the good ole days
From Pop Warner football
To my role as B.A. Baracus
In my high school stage plays
No matter what I set out to do
Pops, you were in the stands
I still remember Saturday morning breakfast
Of Bar-S bacon and Buttermilk Grands
So I thank Dana and Donna for this opportunity
To take my Pop’s to Parcher’s
And for Team 57 welcoming him with open hands!
http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/kk176/Santafeeric/IMG_1102.jpg
My first time in the Sierra’s
I wanted you to experience with me
Rolled into Parchers
Checked into Cabin 3
A beautiful Resort, Cabins made of Knotty Pine
A country store with a Restaurant to wine and dine
A little slice of Heaven on Earth
And Friday’s Pancake Breakfast was filled with Mirth
http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/kk176/Santafeeric/IMG_1103.jpg
http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/kk176/Santafeeric/IMG_1108.jpg
http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/kk176/Santafeeric/IMG_1105.jpg
http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/kk176/Santafeeric/IMG_1104.jpg
Oh Pop’s what a view
No TV, Internet, or distractions
Just me and you
This Father’s Day weekend
I have just one wish
Take you to an easy access place
And put you on your first Trout fish
Intake 2 was our destination
The skunk tried to punk us
With no hesitation
We were both feeling overcrowded at this Sierra SARL
Elbow to Elbow combat fishing
We managed to get you on your first Trout after all!
http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/kk176/Santafeeric/IMG_1121.jpg
http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/kk176/Santafeeric/IMG_1120.jpg

Woke up Saturday morning feeling just fine
No South Lake, Sabrina, or Creeks
Pops needs and accessible place to wet a line
Pops said, “please tell me we not going back to Intake 2”
I said, “fishing is a bout adaptation”
Let your boy show you!
No dough bait, No trebles
Just worms, J hooks, and extend the leader another foot or two
Inflated crawlers floating high above the moss
Now pops you get like Tony Danza & show those Trout
Who’s the Boss
http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/kk176/Santafeeric/IMG_1124.jpg
http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/kk176/Santafeeric/IMG_1128.jpg
The smile on your face every time you set the hook
Will remain etched in my memory
And in my picture book
No exotics, Goldens, Browns, or Brooks
But a nice stringer full of bows is what you took
http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/kk176/Santafeeric/IMG_1132.jpg
Now the lessons in life have come full circle
The first day at Intake 2
Had me asking, “Did I do that?” Like Steve Urkel
Day 2 seemed like Mission impossible
But like you always taught me
Faith & Perseverance makes anything possible
So I wanna thank Intake 2 for lessons learned
And once again a proud look from Pops
I have earned!
http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/kk176/Santafeeric/IMG_1130.jpg

Just the two of us

You’re my inspiration
I’m your pride
Just the two of us
Driving up the 395
Just the two of us
You and I

God Bless!

You're one SPECIAL man and you've made your Father so proud and happy with the man that you've become. In the time that I've been blessed to know you and call you my "friend", you've given so much to your family and friends.

You inspire me way beyond fishing, you inspire with life.

Props to you. You will both remember that trip through this life and into the next.

I lost my dad when I was 12, we never had the chance to made our sierra trip. I took my mom 2 years ago. I know how you feel.

Not sure how mobile the old dude is, but I might be able to suggest a few spots. Send me a PM. I can provide you with a couple spots that are almost wheelchair accessible. One of them is..

Did you really make a Tony Danza reference WTF:EyePop:. You are truly a craftsman of words. Is that iambic pentameter???

Maybe you can scrapbook that in some way for your day and for you I hope ??

What a blessing to read that. For some it will remind us to enjoy our fathers and for some of us (like me) it will remind us of when our dad's went fishing with us. I believe that someday I will have another chance to "go just one more time around the lake" (as we used to say) ... where the weather will always be perfect and the fishing WO.

I think of the song (Luther Van Dross?) about "dance with my father again" (?) ... only "fish with my father again"

Thanks so much. I loved your sentiment and appreciate your excellent writing. BTW, if it's all right to ask, how old is your dad, and how's his health?
