OK guys & gals, the big discussion this morning is because of the state of L.A.'s economy, do they help pay for a Laker victory parade?

Np the City of L.A. should not pay for it. If the Laker's want to do a parade, the Laker's should flip for the bill. The whole bill.

Hell yes the city should pay.

Its cheap advertising all these years for the City of LA. Its not the Lakers fault the city is wasteful and cant balance their budget.

No one minded all those other years but when the politcians finally mess everything up enough to wear we have no money you won't to blame the Lakers??

Ever since the Lakers came to LA it has been nothing but positive for LA. Tremendous adverstisement for LA for years and what about all the revenue Lakers have brought to LA?

Please!! LA is way better off paying for those parades and having the revenue coming in for over 50 years than if we never had the Lakers.

Precisely.

If you want to get technical, the people who think the Lakers should fit the bill should do some computations and figure out how much revenue the team has generated/generates for Los Angeles, and deduct that from the cost of the parade.

What's that? The figure for the Laker revenue to the city since they moved from Minnesota is millions more than the total cost of the parades they've had?

Peeps need to find another issue to politicize, and like WBDS said, find someone else to blame for the fiscal crisis, mainly for the individuals THEY voted into office.

Would any of you actually show up and go through the hassle just to see some basketball players parading around?

It's not like they would actually stop to sign autographs or anything...

If they were giving out free beer & hotdogs I would be up there in a L.A. second.

Lakers are paying for it, So us LAKER FANS can celebrate the championship. I'll be there... come out and join us. here's the info......

The parade to salute the 2009 NBA Champion Los Angeles Lakers will take place this Wednesday, June 17th. The parade will begin at STAPLES Center and travel south on Figueroa Street to the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum where a victory celebration will take place in front of an expected capacity crowd of 95,000 Lakers fans.

Beginning at 11:00 AM, double-decker busses carrying the players, coaching staff, Lakers executives and City officials will depart from STAPLES Center at Figueroa and Chick Hearn Ct. and travel a nearly two mile parade route along Figueroa to the Coliseum where the "official" championship ceremony will take place beginning at noon.

All Lakers fans are invited to stand along Figueroa to cheer the Lakers players having just won the fifteenth NBA Championship in the franchise's history. The first 95,000 fans to arrive at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum will be invited inside to attend a ceremony during which City and team officials, Coach Phil Jackson and several players will address the crowd. Coliseum gates will open beginning at 9:30 AM for early arriving fans who will be able to watch the parade on giant video screens in addition to being entertained by the Laker Girls and other special guests.

Please be aware of the following street closures planned for Wednesday, June 17th. Figueroa will be closed from Olympic to Exposition Park from 8am-12pm. Chick Hearn Court will be closed from 9am-4pm. Cherry will be closed from Pico to Olympic from 9am-2pm. Tell all the fans that the parade is canceled. We, the taxpayers had to replace all the destoyed cars and buses that they damaged after the last game.

I just heard on the news that more than half of the cost of the parade is paid for by private donations.

And I just heard that it will cost 2 million dollars.
