Need help now that catfish season is coming i want to get some macro to use as bait. So my question what bait do i use to get macro and how do i fish for them (they near the bottom or top, deep in the pier?). Going to try long beach or seal beach pier. Thx.

In my experience i caught MACKEREL near surface. I used chovies and squid. I used dropper loop with small 1oz weight.

Elusive MACRO!!! LMAO

If u want to catch as many mackerel in as little time possible...go with a sabiki rig. I would use at least a 2oz sinker so when u do get double,tripple,quadruple....hookups, your rig wont get all tangled. If the bite is slow put small peices of squid on your hook. If its a Wide Open bite, drop the bare hooks...dont bother putting bait on the hook. You will get bit either way. Now if u just want to have fun with the macks....use a #4 mosquito hook and a 1/4 oz weight with a small piece of chovie.

When you tie a dropper loop you can cut the loop and tie your hook as close as you want it if you are worried about tangles.
