Question about spearfishing at Catalina

I was always under the impression that if you had a spear gun license that you can spearfish at Catalina Island however a co-workers friend was just arrested this past weekend has now has jail time. Is it legal to spear fish there?

Fishing Lic covers spear fishing also (saltwater Stamp for Ocean)....

There are protected areas around Catalina, there is NO TAKING of any fish in those areas....

Some fish are protected also.

Find out what he was arrested for, 'exactly'..

I bet he speared/took in a protected area or TOOK/shot a protected fish or (out of season) Lobster..

From what it looks like he for one didn't have a license. I told my co-working all about Catalina that there are protected areas and certain things you cant shoot or take. Hard lesson learned
