Check out the graftech rods at turners. Pretty nice rods for about 90-120 bucks depending on the model. Id go with one of the 8ft rod models.

That ugly stick is not only inexpensive, it has a lifetime guarantee. You ever break it, you get a new one. Just make sure that the rod is made for the size line you plan on using.

I may have wasted a whole lot of money, in my younger days, having custom rods made that I could have gotten just as good off the rack. Unfortunately, wisdom comes with age and the reduced buying power of a retirement check.

I would put it on a Shimano Teramar http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_97240_151002001_151000000_151002000_CROSSS ELL_PRODUCT?ordProd=Y&CMID=TOP_selectitems#itemDetail or a Seeker inshore series rod http://charkbait.com/cs/csrodskrIS.htm I know these rods are over your budget but you spent some money on a nice reel, you might as well pick up a nice rod to put it on. You might be able to find a used one somewhere closer in your price range.
