Headed out to Clemente last weekend with my buddy for a calico slay fest I ended up with 30+ fish. I am hooked on catching these Calico's on the Iron with my Curado 300DSV spooled up with 50 Braid and my 8 1/2 ft GUSA Mega Mag. The set up kills for the Calico's and the Curado holds its own in the ocean I want a large Seabass or Yellowtail on it I bet it will own those fish also. I was fishing the Tady 45's (blue white, Mexican Flag, Scrambled egg) burning it above the kelp.

It is awesome when these Calico's hit the Iron they hit it with vengeance. When they short bite the iron they keep coming back and hitting it until they are hooked. If you hook one and the hook pulls another one will slam your iron right after. Talking about a adrenalin rush.

We kept a few for the sac I normally don't keep large Calico's but its hard to not keep big one's when they all are big. We caught a bunch over 20'' didn't weigh any of them so not sure on the weight. We also ended up with a few goats and I netted a flying fish again to add to my frequent flyer miles. LoL's I'm going to eat this one hahaha I'll let you guys know how it taste. I also figured out why there has been so many flyer's out It's because they are spawning in the kelp. The fry are all over the top of the kelp and the calico's are eating them up. Tomorrow its Yellowtail time hope I get into them.
