Are there any areas around Mammoth or the June lake area to catch crawdads the family and I are heading up Aug 9-14 and camping at Pine cliff park. Fishing is always great but my daughter and I would like to try something different, we can only eat so much fish.

Dude, there are mini lobsters in both June and Gull. I believe Ernie's tackle in June Loop still sells crawdad traps. Best quality mudbugs I've ever seen come from these 2 lakes.

Fill the trap with fish heads and/or guts and soak the trap over night. It will be packed like a roach motel in the morning. We usually load up at least once or twice on our trip just to change things up at the dinner table.

I've never tried traps at any other lakes, but I've seen crawdads in both the upper and lower twins in b-port.

Hey I've camped at Pine Cliff a lot in the past.

We caught crawdads at June between the beaches. We just sight fished them in the rocks with flashlights near dark. Just used a net to scoop/snag them.

The first one we caught was by accident. We had our stringer of fish in the net in the water. This was in the evening and he just crawled in there.

I put out two crawdad traps in Twin Lakes last summer (not sure upper or lower, it was where the campsites are). I only got 4. The puppet show with the heads was still fun for my nephews though :)

Gull & June Lake are the bomb for the daddies. Dog food works great as bait too.

Starkweather and Sotcher in the Devil's postpile have 'em.

The lower Owens and lower Bishop Creek have 'em - so do a lot of the canals.

I purchased my traps from Terry Bullard at www.terrybullard.com

I've filled my traps (40-60 each) letting them sit overnight at June or Gull Lakes using trout guts and heads for bait. Some of them were as big as legal bugs! I've had crawdads on my stringer trying to munch on by fish while float tubing Starkweather, too!

By a crawfish trap. For bait use a can of tuna or can of tuna cat food.

It's easy to find the HUGE ones in the lower O!
They're everywhere! Big too!
