Life is crazy for me now that Parchers is open so I'll keep this relatively brief.....well as brief as a long winded blow hard like myself can. hahahaha
EPIC EPIC EPIC DAY at Crowley yesterday. We kept 48 perch and threw plenty back, farmed a few too. I had a full day off so I had to get out of the canyon, if only for a few hours. We arrived at Crowley at 8am and after BS'ing with the folks that work there, got headed out on a Pontoon with my brother Lane, his lady Sarah and one of my employees and new friend Brett.
Leighton Springs was showing the better fish from all accounts so we headed straight there. As soon as we saw some weeds we stopped and bam - first cast had a fish. Then Lane gets a fish. Then I get another. Then Brett hooks up and farms a big one. We're all stoked - until we drift off the spot and the bite died. Took us about an hour to find them again but when we did it was fantastic. We sat on anchor for about 3 hours straight just wailing on perch to 1.5lbs. TACO TIME!!!! The wind blew a bit and we got some rain but it actually seemed to improve the fishing - while some chickened out, we hung tough and were rewarded.
Sarah works at Gull Lake so we had to drop her off at the dock at 1pm so she wouldn't be late for work - fishing was a bit slower when we got back and the wind was really kickin. We tried Green Banks for four toad perch before we drifted off the spot and with the wind blowing like it was, we had no chance of staying on the spot. Tried a few more spots with no love but we already had two buckets full of perch and that was plenty for the big fish fry we're having next week.
We caught fish on several different colors of the 2" Berkley Power Grubs but by far the hottest color was motor oil and pumpkinseed. 1/16oz leadhead was working better than 1/32oz.
Here are a few pics of what was a freaking awesome day on the water!!!!
Yours truly stoked on a perch
