Also what's the best place for dinner, steakhouse or anything better than MCdonalds or Dominos

Whiskey Creek is pretty darn good imo, check out their menu posted outside the door. If you are in the mood for a quick pizza/meatball sandwich/salad check out the Pizza Factory....good food at a decent price.

Everyone seems to like Jack's for breakfast, so you may want to give that a try!

Have a great trip!

Jacks is ok...but just ok..definitely a big step up from Denny's though. The Village Cafe on the north side town is by far the best breakfast joint in Bishop....chicken fried, B&G, Frittatas, bacon and eggs....the only place in the area that has a breakfast that can touch the village is my restaurant at Parchers.

Whiskey Creek is pretty much the only place in town to get a steak. Rossi's in Big Pine is outstanding, but not in Bishop

BBQ bills is good for BBQ & Prime Rib, Las Palmas is best for Mexican, Pizza Factory for Pizza & italian, Imperial Gourmet is surprisingly good for chinese food. All the other joints are mediocre at best.

breakfast at Jack's ... then lunch at (hmmm) Jack's ... then probably dinner at eeeee-yeah) Jack's Waffle shop.

Some people like the BBQ shop ... but I thought it was just average. Whiskey creek is okay for lunch especially ... but never as good as Jack's

Schat's bakery is famous for coffee cakes, breads, etc. But it's also good if you just want to grab a sandwich and maybe get it on some good breaks.

There's Chinese at the north end of town on the west side ... in back of Subway and BKing. I think it's calle Imperial Gardens. It's upstairs (elevator available) and it's clean, nice, and food is okay.

I am partial ... but it's earned. I've been doing Jack's since the 50's.

Good luck and return the favors by letting us know wassup

nothing like having cold hot wings with ranch sauce for a quick snack while fishing a beautiful creek

Whiskey Creek is overated and over priced. Jacks is ok but has gone south in the past few years. Pizza Factory is pretty darn good for pies. Oh and Mohagany meats has killer jerky..

I ate at Jacks last September while I was fishing up there. It was just fine in my book. You get stuffed and are not hungry till late in the afternoon. Will have to try the Village Cafe next time. The pizza Factory was just ok imho.

Bhop from the north? On See Vee Lane?

I have a long attachment to Jack's and many memories. But I suppose I could have a small affair.

This thread makes me wish we could set up something something like the Recipe section ... something that included recommended places, prices, for motels and meals.

Could even bring in some money for the site. I'll take a small commish. Actually I'd appreciate it so much that I'd go pro bono.

Jack's is way over rated...Smitty hit it on the head with the Village Cafe in terms of breakfast.

I really don't understand the Jack's reputation, other than it's cool to look at the monster trout on the wall, because it certainly can't be based on the food quality or customer service.

I just don't understand why some people are bagging on Jacks. I went there the food was great and service was great too. I guess we went there on a good day? I will hit up the village Cafe next trip.

Dining is like kinda like a movie, don't always form your opinion based on other people's experiences....yeah it could be a good indicator, but you never know until you try it for yourself.

If we hit it right timing wise I am going to be sure to try Jack's for myself this weekend....otherwise the egg McMuffins are excellent in Bishop!

+2 I "found" the Village Cafe by accident, Jack's had a line/wait out the door and some one @ the Shell gas station told me the Village Cafe had better food.............going there ever since. Will try the grub @ Parchers next though.

I don't think anyone is bagging on Jacks....cool restaurant, great history, and the mounts on the walls make the atmosphere awesome...but their food, while it is good, isn't as awesome as the gigantic browns hanging on the walls like some folks would say. It's good, and some things are very good, but being the breakfast maniac I am....it's a bit overrated when compared with a lot of the places out there. If the question is where to get the best breakfast in town, the Village is the place...if the question is where to get the second best breakfast in Bishop (again, we're talking food only), it's Jack's.

Since we're talking food and I'm hungry - best B&G within 200 miles is the Breakfast Club in Mammoth(from scratch biscuits bigger than your fist!).....Machaca & Eggs, Good Life in Mammoth.....Chicken Fried Steak, my place and then second place is Tom's Place on Rock Creek.......mmmmmmmmmm. Can't wait for breakfast........

Bes Breakfasts ever IMO?....Broken Yolk in SD county, Black Bear Diner in Susanville, Sabrina's in Philly and my buddy's aunt's joint called Candy's in Yucaipa(don't think it's there anymorel).

And whomever said Whiskey Creek is overrated.......is right. Not a knock but when you're the only semi-fancy place in town, it is what it is. Top 5 happy hours ever though..and very nice folks.

Actually, the Chinese Retaurant is Imperial Gourmet. It *used* to be upstairs behind Subway/Burger King. But that whole shopping center (Cottonwood Plaza) has been closed down.

Imperial Gourmet is now on the East Side of 395 a little north of where it used to be. Defnitely good chinese food!

The airport cafe WAS moved onto main street and was renamed R&T Tavern and yes i personally liked their food but unfortunately they didn't last.... Now the Loco Frijole is in the building. Not bad figuring they're pretty good for Mexican food.

In general i think all the restaurants in Bishop Ive been too are good (minus the Sizzler).

My favorites are probably:
-Whiskey
-BBQ bills
-Upper Crust
-Bishop Grill
-Petit Pantry
-Yamatani (sushi place)
-La Casita
-Jacks
-Pizza Factory
-The golf course (surprisingly good)
- And of course Mickey DS!!

I enjoy the Imperial Gourmet when they prepare my fresh perch fillets with black bean sauce. You can work out a deal but some great eats!

Jacks for breakfast.
BBQ Bills for ribs.
Yamatani for sushi and other Japanese food.
Schats for baked goods.
Nik and Willie's for oven roasted sandwiches.
I've always like Upper Crust over Pizza Factory for pizza.

But where to go for ice cream now that Basken Robbins is gone (also a victim of the Cottonwood Plaza closure).

Had a very nice and pleasant first visit to the Village Cafe. It's nice, quaint, friendly, and good food. We had the home made Corn Beef Hash with sausage and browns. Wife liked it better than Jack's because it's smaller and nicely decorated ... it is better for most woman. She also said the sentimental part and the fishing atmosphere made Jacks's worthwhile. She also missed her Pecan waffle at Jacks. I'd rate the 2 a tie ... if I could be unbiased. I first went to Jack's in the early 50's with my dad. It was his favorite stop, + hit the tackle shop next door. (I remember when the checkout counter was up against the south wall that touches the tackle shop - Jack's was probably half the size then)

So, if you have a lady with you, consider the Village for sure. Jack's has more of a masculine + fishing feel.

FWIW, if you're heading north on 395, it's the first left turn after you make that 90 degree left (west) towards the sierra as you are starting to come out of Bishop. If you hit the Standard station you went too far.

Imperial Gourmet looked nice from the outside. The yogurt place is inside that big mall area ... near Imperial G ... right?

Hope this helps. Let's get a section on this board for eats and accomodations ... ???

I kept noticing this place a few times and decided to give it a try. Well, it ended up being the lunch spot for the weekend. Very good and the tamales are great. Yelp is a good place for reviews wherever you're going, although I think they are being underrated here.

Ate at the village cafe last Sunday.
I had the flat iron steak, tender as a filet.
The wife had a fritatta(sp) she was in heaven.
Only downside was the wait,
don't go Sunday morning less you have time to burn.
We were on our way home & in no rush.
By the way fishing the Bridgeport area was WFO.

Just an update since I started this thread.
I was up there on the June 11-14.
First night we ate at Yamatani, and that is the absolute worst Japanese food I've ever had. I'm glad I had plenty of beef jerky and asian trail mix back at the hotel room.

Second we were closer to Mammoth so we ate mexican food at Roberto's Cafe, that was great.

The third night we were pretty beat after fishing all day and then we donated a bunch of money to the Indian Casino and decided to eat at Dennys, which was only as good as Dennys can be.

Sunday Morning we ate at Village cafe, that food is great! Will definitly be stopping there more often.

When we pullled into town I realized I've been to Jacks at least 3 or 4 times in the past, and that place is not very good.

Thanks for all the suggestions
