Kinda looks like a Tule or maybe a Sacramento Perch? Theres thousands of these. Fish crashing them all night long. That would be an exotic for sure Sac perch. I have caught them at Crowley lake i dont recall them looking like this.

im just gonna say plain old squawfish Its not a squawfish either. Caught my share of squawfish looked nothing like one. Its not related to a carp either. Its definatley some type of perch.

Yeah they do kind of look alike, but the Sac Perch has a large mouth like a Crappie. And yes they get stripes when they mature. The spawning males also get really bright yellow. And Rod... no, I'm not taking any in any new fish mount work. Sorry man. If you want something, PM me. Gotta take a break from all the fiberglass. I'm thinking of buying a fully rigged bass boat and letting people use it for a day for maybe $150.....

Tule Perch

They can be barred or non-barred. You have the Barred variety.

Gary should weigh in on this...

The photos you had are of a tule perch. They are common in most lakes that receive water from the CA. aqueduct. Neat fish as they are livebearers, so they don't build a nest.

Do a search on tule perch and you can find out a lot more info if you are so inclined.

Bingo! There are two types of tule perch (barred and unbarred). I have not seen the barred around the Palmdale and Littlerock area. All the ones I see are unbarred. I want to know how you are catching them fishing for stripers and catfish. You would need a micro hook.

I want to know how you are catching them fishing for stripers and catfish. You would need a micro hook. All right we were bored. We could here fish crashing at the gates. We put a light on them. At first we were thinking dam look at the schools of small stipers. Then more and more came to the light. We could see it was not stripers but a weird looking fish. We changed to small hooks small worm. Believe me it was not easy. After about 2 hours trying to catch this perch. My buddy walks away a grab the light and hooked one right away. We checked it out took pic letit go. About ten minutes later buddy gets one. There were some very small ones and some pretty big ones. Ther freaken hard to hook even with a small hook. They sort of attack it quick take what they can and run. Yes there were stripers chasing them all around. Some big cats cruising around ignoring the anchovies. Did not notice any carp though.

Stripers love those perch. The perch love to come up to the light at night too. As tempting as it is, don't use the perch as live bait like so many do. It's a big arse fine. With our state budget issues, there is no way one will ever find a lenient judge either. If you see stripers chasing perch or shad, cats a 3/4oz rat-l-trap in all directions and see if they'll hit. When they are on a feeing frenzy like that, they will hit.
