Sooo today was a long day! These past few days since I have moved to Independence have been great but a bit overwhelming. I started working at Manzanar on Monday. I work with four 15-18 year old boys. They are quite a handful but a fun crew!!
Here’s a pic of Kevin (on the back), Andrew (on the right), Cody (behind Andrew) and lastly Scotty who is driving (on the left).

I am basically the SCA for Manzanar for 6 months and two of these months I am the leader for the YCC (the youth working at Manzanar). Monday we got training, Tuesday we cleaned out the gardens on the site and today we took a 7 hr class to certify all of us in CPR, First Aid and AED. It was quite an experience! We have already had several mishaps happen which have been quite amusing and just simple mistakes by the boys since this is their first job. I have already told them that I will take them fishing soon!
Anyways, today I decided to do some more fishing. I try to find the time to have the energy to go and when I do I am getting more successful. First, I drove over to the Independence campgrounds where there is a small creek. It was a little too small for me…haha! Then I drove over to Symmes Creek in Independence but the fishing hole didn’t look like it had much fish and everyone had their campers there….haha!
After exploring all that I decided to go with my gut, and I drove back down to my favorite fishing hole: Shepherds Creek. I started fishing off to the side where no one else was to catch something. No luck! Then out of nowhere some guy pops his head in and asks me if I am catching stuff. Soon enough I move over to a different spot and he is setting up his gear. He comes over and shows me his spinners and lures, and I come to find that he is a local. I also find out that his sister works at the eastern California museum in Independence which I now need to go visit…haha!

Soon enough I start catching fish. All of them were between 6-8 inch rainbows and one was 12 inches.
The first fish caught:

A nice shot of the last bit of my fish:

I had a successful day and fished from 6-8:30pm. I used my craws, gulp eggs and bang. It works every time in the Sierras. Now I want to try some other things like dry flies, spinners and different kinds of lures.
Till next time! (This Sunday I am going up to South Lake to try and fish and find Smitty…haha)
