Fish4Birdies

Since moving to Thousand Oaks a month ago, I've been exploring new fishing spots in the Ventura Marina and Oxnard areas. Thought I'd try to find some beans today and found a nice beach full of beans in 6-12" of water. Tried everything I had and couldn't get them to bite, not even on sc's. Do I need mussels? So, I decided to go look for hali waters and found a nice sandy beach next to a jetty...kind of reminded me of 72nd. Threw the kroc and lc for zilch so I went to my bean set-up and pinned on a gulp minnow. I got bit! Ripped some drag and headed for the rocks...climbed up a few rocks to get in front of the fish and the flattie was heading under the kelp. Lucky I was using my 8 1/2' rod...it helped to keep it away from the rocks and kelp. Tail grabbed it and placed it on a rock for the tape...23 inches! A guy fishing the jetty came down to help and took the photo with my phone...then released the fish. Well, I found two hali spots and one bean spot...just gotta get the beans to bite now.
