You will probably be fishing for barracuda or bass on a 1/2 dayer. Use 20-30 lb. test. Bring some 2 or 2/0 hooks, some small weights, and a few irons for throwing for barracuda.

I agree with Dean but you might want to add some torpedo sinkers up to 8oz. If there's not surface action the usual fall back would probably be either bass or rockfish.

They're loading up the bass right now. Cuda's has been on and off for the 1/2 day trips. More cuda's on the 3/4 trips. Anyhow, more bass in the 1/2 counts out of San Deigo today. Either way, be ready for both and you may get lucky and get a shot at some homeguard yellows.

I suggest a 15,20, and a 25# sticks. Besides what has already been mentioned, I'd bring along some plastics and toss em' if you see guys bringing in the bass. Maybe even a kroc lure for the cudas. They love em!

15# for the plastics
20# as a bait stick
25# bait stick, dropper loop, or heavy iron. You never know in San Deigo waters.

Fresh line as well!

Good fishing to ya!

Dont go with ,super heavy tackle. Bring all the above mentioned in the responses. Also take a med. Heavy, bass casting set up, wity 12lb. I use my claris flipping stick ,with my cardiff 300. I have 8lb dia. 20lb rated crystal fire line braid , with 12lb to 15lb floro leader, for twice the line capcity ,in case i get lucky enough ,to hook a bigger fish, like 5lb to 10lb yellow tail ,with no problem.i use that set up 90% of the time on the half days.

That would be good for the bass. I would still bring at least one more setup. At least a 25# setup and with at least those 2 setup's you should be covered for just about anything on a 1/2 day trip.

Where do you live? If you need a 25# setup I can loan you one.

Exactly. I can use my swimbait rod rated 15-30 and 2-8oz for just about
anything. I also pair it up with a Curado 300 sometimes for rockfish. I use
it for dropper loops, iron, flylining, and BH's.

The Okuma Swimbait rod would fit your purpose and budget perfectly.

That 15 lb setup should be perfect. On a half day .i dont think you will even need anything else. My other heavier set up is a 8' heavy action salmon rod, with a narrow penn jig master reel, with 20lb. The rod is the same as a swim bait rod .its rated at 15lb to 30lb. I used it 2 years ago, on a overnighter ,out of san diego ,seaforth landing ,and caught yellow fin tuna ,and yellow tails ,with no problem.the smaller the line, more fish will hit. If you want to pick that rig to use. Give me a jingle.i live in la verne.
