my dad and i left at about 4:30 on Saturday and made our way toward the sierras. at about 7:30 we got to lone pine and drove up to the portal to take a little break from the car.

made it up to bishop during the mule days parade and watched the cowboys ride by. after watching the parade we headed up west line and had breakfast at cardinal lodge, i also caught a few 'bows in the pond while waiting for our food.

we where pretty tired from the drive so we decided to go to north lake and be lazy.it was pretty wide open if you knew what you where doing but lots of people struggled to get a bite. we fished the far side of the lake for about 20 'bows each, 1 brown and 2 brookies. the fish at north lake where hitting mini jigs, power worms, woolly buggers behind a bubble, and crawlers. nothing on the buoyants or spinners.

after north lake we had lunch at sabrina and hit the creek below the lake. my dad caught about 5 and i caught 9. it was pretty tricky to get them to bite.. you had to switch up your jigs and powerworms but as soon as they saw something new they nailed it. my dad also caught some in the creek twitching a floating rapala. there was a family camped near sabrina who were planning on catching trout for dinner so they didnt bring much food and they where asking for pointers. they weren't the best fishermen. they where really nice people so we gave them a bunch of the fish we caught in the creek. they would have been screwed for dinner if we didn't help them out.
after that we checked into the trees motel, showered and had dinner at jacks.
the next morning we hit up rock creek and fished below the lake and caught somewhere around limits of 'bows and about 10 brookies on the fly rod. the rainbows at rock creek where kinda picky but they hit drifted crawlers, all where released .we had some burgers at the resort and headed down the hill to check out my fav. spot.... PVR
srry no pics from rock creek.
We pulled up to the power plant and there where only a few cars in the lot. as we where walking to lake we saw a few groups of people walking back and they said it would be best if we turned around cuz it was SLOW. they must have been on something because the fishing was insane. we went about a 1/4 mile past the tree line because there was lots of moss but we found a clear spot.
once we settled down i cast out a crawler and was gonna tie on a jig but i got hit withing .003 seconds of casting out and i brought in a nice little 'bow. at this time my dad already caught a sac. perch on a jig. i knew i have caught a few perch in there before but had no idea it could go wide open like it did, with nice ones too. it was hard to get a trout on the jig cuz the perch where so thick. fishing a crawler would get you a trout every cast with only a few perch on the worm , i also got a nice brown that swallowed a crawler so it went on the stringer. a group of 4 guys filled their fish basket all the way to the top with perch. the trout where still biting after the sun went down but we had to stop because i used two tubs of worms and they and it was about 9:15.
to put it short it was all you wanted on perch and trout.

monday, we slept in til 8:30, checked out of the motel and went back up west line. we checked out intake II and it was dead so we headed up to sabrina. it was pretty slow i managed 1 trout on a jig there where tons of fish cruising around but they didn't want anything. we talked to the guy who runs the landing and he was kinda mad dfg didn't stock when they where supposed to. he also said most of the fish we saw cruising around where sucker fish. he said they lake is infested with them but he has no idea how they got in there. anyone know anything about that?
anyway we headed to north lake for the same type of fishing we had there on Saturday. we hit the road for home at about 4:00, stopped in olancha to eat at the ranch house cafe which was pretty good and made it back to Hermosa by 9:30
