The 3 amigos got on the phone,
Boomer 123, Walt and me, Eddie fishtaco
plan A was not possible,
the 3/4 day San diego was chartered, so, plan B was
the Malihini, bad luck, it was loaded, no more room, damit.
Now what? we decided to go on a overnighter on the Prowler
it was 5 pm so we had to run, my wife almost killed me when she found out
I was going on a overnighter, when? she asked, now -I said...
slamm! the door on my face
I was ready to fly
The Boat
The prowler is a NICE looking boat, everything looks new
and very clean the crew, top of the line deckhands, cook, mate and Captain
But they decided to do a exploratory run, 80 miles offshore,
and my guess is that they did'nt check water temps.
and the morning was a boring boat ride,on cold water
until like 9 am we saw a Kelp paddy and I tossed the jig in yellow
the one dodo got me from Last chance tackle.. WHAM! first fish of the day
a nice and healty Bonito in the 7 lbs, we got the jackpot, we though,
that the boat will stay at that dead area, but the Captain moved closer to shore, and we found kelp every now and then... prowling the area
Yellowtail
we approached another kelp paddy and the Salas 6xjr in white and blue
went flying like a UFO... sinked like 30ft and then started the fast retreive..whammmo! Jurel de castilla. small , like 9 pounds..
So far I had a yellow and a Bonito then I hanged the iron and grabbed the live bait rig, in the meantime, Walter was fighting a Big yellow in the middle of
a sea of tangled lines managed to get away from the spidder web
but the damage was done the big fish came unhooked...
Never the less he laded another 9 pounder like mine, I wonder how he's
gonna cook it, that was a pretty fish.
Later at around 11 am Boomer123 was trolling and a nice size bonito decided to play on his white and blue squid skirt, whammmo! skunk off!
then we saw another kelp and I lost a yellow in tangled lines
while boomer landed his yellow in the middle of the spagetty of lines
The next Kelp, only Walter got hooked, he said that was because he added a slidding egg sinker to his rigg, and the yellow was a MONSTER and just could not be stopped,
ran to the kelp and got stuck in there, we lost it and that was jackpot)
Another kelp paddy and this time was my turn, the sardine was big and strong
and ran full speed until it just stopped, I backpedaled the spool and ran again
but faster, click- set the hook and another Yellow was dancing w/me
I just bounced the rat, like 8 pounds...
overall a fun trip the yellows are not big at all, a bunch of rats
but fun and good meat,I ended up with 2 yellows one bonito
and lost 2 yellows in the spaggety, Boomer landed a Yellow and a Bonito, and lost another yellow in the spider web of lines
Walter , one yellow and lost 2 big ones one at the kelp and one at the net of lines all tangled up, because people don't follow the bait,
We had a lot of fun, but the wife won't speak to me
LOL
(is better to say I'm sorry than ask for permission)
