I went out on the betty-o again today. i thought it deserved a second chance since yesterday held horrible fishing conditions. today was the opposite. it was pretty calm out there. i cought all the usual rockfish and a couple sanddabs, but nothing really big. the deckhand says to me "im waiting for you to catch your big one. dont let me down". well 5 mins after he said that, WHAM i get hit hard. im reelling it in and was surprised to see the biggest salmon grouper ive cought to date. that thing fought me all the way to the top. well im glad i gave this boat a second chance. it was the biggest fish on the boat but captain mike said we couldnt use our salmon grouper for the jackpot. not sure why. anyway, great fishing today on the Betty-O.

air bladder......from the pressure of getting slayed from the depths of the ocean!! The swimbladder is a unique organ found only in fish and is sometimes called the 'air bladder.' It is a smooth, gas-filled organ found in the abdomen of most fish. A fish will either add to or decrease the amount of air in the bladder to help it move up or down in the water. Without the air bladder, the fish would have to swim continuously to keep from sinking to the bottom. By adjusting the amount of air in the bladder, fish can adjust the depth at which they float and extend very little energy in the process. One other benefit of the air bladder in some species is that it can be used to receive or emit sounds.

sweeeet fish - great job
if you ever find out it would be interesting to know why it wasnt allowed in the jackpot tourney......i have only been out in the salt a few ties and always get in the pot but have never heard of any rules saying some fish arent allowed

maybe because he only had to pay half of what the other ppl did? it looked like there were fish off the same species there.

Victor 101 -
You are a hard core deep sea fisherman! Way to go back and catch a huge fish. Kind of lame for it to not be counted in the jackpot, but you still got some good eats from it.

ghetto dad - deep fried oreos?? What?? Now I'm curious.. they do sound good.

Thanks for the report.
