as soon as we got everything setup we headed straight to the creek by our camp and right away started catching a bunch of fish! i got my first brook that was a easy 13"er! i didnt have my camera at the time so i missed out on the pic..i know bummer.. but here are a few pix from the first day.

while we were hiking we saw this old cabin..it doesnt seem to be in use just a old historical thing to look at..saw writting on it with dates dating back to the 20's! couldnt see inside though...
http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f172/oneUPfabrication/101_0514.jpg

the next day we went on a really long hike from iris campground (i think that was the right one) anyway we hiked proly 4 miles back and found a awesome section on the creek that opened up really nicley
http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f172/oneUPfabrication/101_0515.jpg
i had to take a photo opp. while me and my buddy adam waited for his brother to catch up
http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f172/oneUPfabrication/101_0518.jpg
heres another part of the creek before we got to a small lake back in the hills
http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f172/oneUPfabrication/101_0519.jpg
once we got back in the hills to the lake me and adam started catchin right away!
http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f172/oneUPfabrication/101_0522.jpg

heres a pamarama of the small lake we found..
http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f172/oneUPfabrication/101_0524.jpg
after the lake we got back to camp and ate some lunch..i decided to go back out to try and get that 13" brook that i got eariler..tossed in the lure it got hit, i set the hook and ended up takin a very cold dip in the creek..and the fish got away so i took the walk of shame back to camp..
heres where i took my dip...
http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f172/oneUPfabrication/101_0526.jpg

later that night we had a pretty cool visitor to our camp..i never seen one this big before and this colorfull..
http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f172/oneUPfabrication/101_0531.jpg
http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f172/oneUPfabrication/101_0533.jpg

the following day was a awesome one i got the biggest fish of the trip and my PB creek fish..the crappy thing was when i went to wash off the fish for its picture my digi fell out of my fly vest and went straight into the creek! i quickly took a pic before the camera took a crap...:( since my phone died...so did the fish
http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f172/oneUPfabrication/101_0536-1.jpg
so that being only the second day i was pissed i couldnt take more pix on my digi i had to buy a throw away camera...boooo i also took some pix on my cell phone that i will post in a lil bit... we also went to convict lake that was incredibly awesome! and after convict we headed up to mammoth for a awesome day and scenery..

oh! and we hiked a lil bit on the same hike me and TJ did last year..didnt hike to treasure lakes but we hit up some of the lakes on the trail....it was fun didnt catch a whole lot there just a few small ones..but we did see a HUGE easy 10lb brown swimming one of the shore lines!!! this thing was freakin huge!!! and smart, it defently made my day seeing that big of a wild fish it was amazing!..

well i defently wish my digi didnt get ruined so id have more pix to share with you guys...i hope all the throw away camera pix turn out good...there was a hell of a lot of snow up there as well..the rock teris up to treasure lakes was not climbable it was snowed over..i defently had fun shovin a hand full of snow in my buddys face when he wasnt looking haha as well as a full water bottle down the pants for payback...he was defently freezing after that hahaha...

well i hope you enjoyed it as much as i did! I cant wait to go back again...were planning a trip to yellowstone for next year!! ill post more pix from my cell !

For the life of me I can't figure out where that large wide section of water is that you took pictures of, I have never seen a section of Rock Creek that looks like that. Where the heck was it.

Above "the parking lot" maybe?
Was pretty wide and shallow right there before the snow even came last year end.
Little runoff I could see it getting wider.

no its not above the parking lot but ya that was a awesome section of the creek it opened up even wider into a lil lake..this section is pretty hidden.. you got to hike back a lil ways to get to it... and there were tons of hot sopts all the way up and down that section.. we proly got over 14 wilds that day...

I have fished Rock Creek for 50 years and still can't figure out where those pictures were taken. I can't think of anywhere from Rock Creek Lake to the 395 that looks like that. No section of Rock Creek from the lake to 395 empties into a lake, were you in the back country...

matt duarte
05-18-2009, 02:35 PM
i can assure you that it is a section of rock creek..this section is above the rock creek lake but you cant see it from the road..you defently need to do some hiking..but it is a part of rock creek..

How far in did you guys make it?

I went the weekend of june 14th last year and we made it to the lower gems. It was snow walking up near the top. We are heading back up the weekend after memorial day, cant decide if we should hit up little lakes or not.
