Hi All,

I'm new to the boards, although I've been reading some of the posts waiting on my activation

I've had the bug to go fish the NPH docks lately, and I know of one public dock off the inside island that I fished this last weekend.. and also I know of the ferry docks. But I was wondering where you guys fish? Do you only do public docks, or are there other docks around that you can fish off of? And where are some other public docks... I'm in to exploring for myself, but newport can get tiresome driving around and finding parking only to find all locked private docks. I know you guys wont want to give up your favorite spots, but any helpful info would be appreciated (including bait/jig info). Hopefully I'll see some of you guys out there soon!

Thanks in advance.

Daniel

I usually can only go on weekends... try to get out early am 6'ish.

If I can get down there, I'll go for dusk/sunset during the week.

Hey Theedanimal,

Welcome to the board!!!!

Fishing Newport Harbor is one of my most favorite places to fish.....always great fishing if you know where to go!!!! There are alot of docks open to the public that you can fish....but I have found the best way to fish Newport is by float tube. This way you can fish all the docks the bay has to offer and not worry about being on private property!!!

I do have an extra tube setup if you ever want to try it!! Let me know.

Hey Theedanimal,

Not a problem!!!! It is a totally different type of fishing and everyone I have ever taken out or introduced to it has gotten hooked!!!! It is very relaxing and you catch a ton more fish than the guys from shore or even boats cause you can get to places they can't!!!!!

About the waders....they run anywhere from $49.99 and up....I will send you a coupon you can use at sports authority to get $10 off....it is not much but it will help!!!!

Neoprene waders are fine and cheap but someguys swear by the breathables....they run about $90 and up.

By the way....nice fish!!! WTG on the spottie.....lots of them in Newport and fun to catch from the tube!!!!!!

Check your pm!!

I am also new to the boards and just getting into Salt. I left my tube out in Utah when I moved out here 2 years ago, I didn't think I would use it much, but I guess I was wrong. After the posts I had my ma mail it out to me.

It seems that techniques for the salt bass are pretty similar to hooking up with smb's and lmb's. I used to have a couple of great fishin holes back home for trout and bass.

I have been out on the piers and on the cattle runs a few times, any recommendations on getting in to the harbor would be appreciated. I have a 6 yr old daughter that loves to fish as well so any surf or dock recommendations would be great as well.

Well good fishing to you all, I am sure I'll see you out there some time or another.
