Well,

Sorry its late. This occurred last week. I met with Rob (Rooster) and Rich for my second time out in NPH (still a rookie). We threw live bait and swimmies at the bait barge during low tide for a few sand bass, baracudas and such.

After that, we drifted down towards the Coast Guard Station. While tossing Swimbaits, Rob caught a HUGE over 3lb Bass!!! Sorry I didn't get a shot of it. My highlight was tossing a red swimbit towards the docs and got stopped cold! When I reeled it in with a few hard head tugs, I found my first SHORT Hali on the end of the line. In the picture you can see the bait.

We then drifted all of the way down to the bridge toward Back Bay and I tossed spinners and a crank bait for nada. Rob and Rich caught a few more bass, but we split up. I decided to anchor near some houses on a point and bait while I toss some swimmies. I caught a lil guy Bass on Nuclear Chicken Shrimp plastics. Then.....the bite turned on just before dark!! I managed to land three sharks!!! The first was a 2.5' leopard and the second was a bigger near 3' Bull or nurse I have been told. The third was a very small like the second. All safely released to play another day. I'm still new to the Harbor, so hopefully I get better fishing and reports as time goes on. I should be out there this Sunday. Thanks for reading!!

great job!! the harbor sure is fun... that first shark is definently a leopard and I think those last two are smoothounds, either way they still are fun to pull on! I am sure you know wrapping fish up in towels is really bad for them, the same might be true for sharks, but I am not sure. Anyway great job!!!

Thanks guys!!! Yeah they tug a little and swim around, making them a fun catch. Thanks for the species name for me :)

Bergie, yes you are right, Sharks are more resiliant than catfish. Besides, I wasn't sure at the time if they bitr or stick me. I promise, no more towels :) I'm addicted to the harbor now!!

Hahaha. All I know is it was huge in the net when I saw it from about 30 yards away. Maybe it was 5 lbs hahaha.

Yeah we've gone out there at night and anchored (NOT in the main channel!) and just used chunks of mackeral or bonita with a half ounce of sliding sinker on our bass rods and just had a blast with the sharks! A very nice way to spend a warm summer evening! Make sure you have a good drag system on your reels!

Nice catch! I have always loved the leopard sharks! They are beautiful! The grey shark is a grey smoothhound.

I too will hopefully be out there with 2 guests aboard my ride! Hope to see you out there also and I will give you some tips in person instead of the PM I promised last week before I had to spend the week on the road on short notice!

I will be in a white 16" Bayliner with 2 very recognizable guests on board! We will be launching at the Dunes hopefully at first light or just shortly there after! We will then work our way down past the PCH bridge with a few quick stops along the way. We rarely make it down past the Coast Guard area just for some inside info!

Hope to see you and CRVZ and others out there!
