Howdy,
Lot's of good stuff on these forums, hope I can add to it.
My name is Chris, I live in Northern Cali, way north in Humboldt County. I live in an old fishing village that has canals coming off of everyones back yards that lead to the Humboldt Bay. Anyone in the area? I fish the jetties and rocky shores for Rockfish, Lingcod and my fav Cabezon. I recently got into kayak fishing (see the yak board for my other post).
You can find my website in my profile (I don't want to post the link cause I don't know if it would be considered advertising). I hope you visit it.
Thanks

Welcome to the board!

I've always wondered about the spiral wrapped rods. I got a chance to use one a few years ago at Mission Beach Jetty here in SD and I thought it worked great!

...but what are the advantages to it?

thanks,

sansou

Welcome to the FNN message boards, Sebastes.

Do you prefer to fish the rough water, or calm seas.

Sansou,
The advantages to a spiral wrap are numerous. The most important is the lack of rod twist (torque). With a traditional casting rod the guides are on top. When a load is applied the line wants to get to the lowest point possible, like on a spinnin rod. Even though you can't see it happening, when preasure is being applied, it is creating torque or rod twist that can ultimately cause your rod to break.
one_leg,
I prefer calm waters, but my favorite is when the fish are biting.

Thanks for the reply Sebastes.

You got me re-thinking now on what I'm going to pair my little lefty Avet SX with....I thought I had the rod I wanted all figured out, but now I see this "spiral wrap" and now you got me thinking....

lol Right on man! The great thing about learning is, it never stops. Drop me a line if you want to talk about a custom, or I could re-wrap the guides.
