I got an invite to fish aboard “The Looper” with skipper Martin and Jason “jscrib.
The sea conditions were nice and the fish were biting.
My first drop of the day produced a nice home-guard Sand Bass that pulled like a fish twice its size. Fortunately, I was using a brand new 220-5 Newell Reel that my good friend and Mako Shark catching extraordinaire Keith Gross let me try out, since he is now the new owner of Newell Reels. Major congrats Keith! Not only could I cast those swimbaits a mile, those Bass didn’t stand a chance once they were hooked, thanks to the cranking power of the handle. I’ve had a 533-4.6 for years and it’s always been a tough and dependable reel, so I knew I was going to have a fun time fishing that new reel.

Another couple Rollers that fell victim to the new Newell Reel, Basstrix swimbait and VS lead head combo.

Then Martin puts a Halibut on the boat that ate the Basstrix swimbait. WTG Martin!

Enjoyed another fantastic day on the water with good friends and I had a blast breaking in that new Newell Reel. I can’t wait to go again. Thanks for the reel Keith! HOOK-UP!!
