After a long day/night trip to Lake Pyramid/Aqueduct saturday….

I headed out for yet even more carnage !

This time, I met up with Dwayne (Bucketbay)

Target species of the day was Halibut and Barracuda.

Started slow, then….

Dwayne hooks up !

Zzzzz !...oh…this is a good fish….

Zzzzzzzz! Zzzzzz!

Drag peels….Dwayne squeals……as he reels in a sizable fish……..as we see color……

DAYAM !.....looks like a striper !

And I’m not kidding, the color patterns in the water looked like it ! we were both convinced plus this sucka was battling hard so it wasn’t hard to believe it was a striper !

He lands it…..AND………

It’s a HUGE Mullet !......DAYAM ! what a worthy adversary…Congrats Dwayne !

A while goes by and we try a new zone….

We trolled LC’s for many Barracuda, most were scooters but we’d land maybe every 5th one a fish that was around 23”-24” size !

Dwayne landed one right at 27”
Like a dummy I released it b4 taking his pic (doooooh!)
(no photo available)

We arrived at the new spot

We ended up catching several small calicos but you did have to work the gulp real hard to get bit….

After 3-5 each, I decided to focus our attack a little deeper, not a whole lot (only about 15.5 to 16.7 feet deep)

A creative drift AND….

Hoooookup !..

Flatttie, nice thumpin’ fight !

http://i307.photobucket.com/albums/nn284/garywuebben/marinaw-bucketbay-garyhalibut1.jpg

Another few drifts..

Thump…pressure…pressure….HoookuP !

A pancake……..
Then…another real solid bite but no hookup yet followed by what seemed to be yet another flattie strike but did not translate into a hookup !

Then…

(Flattie) : Knock….Knock…Knock !....

(Gary in feminine voice): Who’s there !...........BUTT who can it be !

(Flattie): This BUTT be me !

(Gary): Ahhhh you are a FLATTIE I see and Soon you will be caught by me ! and once I land you …that will make 3 !

(Flattie): Not by the hair of my Chinney Chin Chin !

(Gary) : So you want to play for Blood ….so let us BEGIN !

(Flattie): I wish to Challenge my flesh against STEEL !

(Gary): I call you on your challenge!.....so let the Drag PEEL !

(Flattie): Dayam That STEEL has a STING !

(Gary): Yeah I know it hurts DOESN’T IT !........it’s the pain that I BRING !

(Flattie): I’ve heard of you before, those other fish, speak of your name !

(Gary): Bring them on too……..and They’ll feel the Same

(Flattie): Now that you have me, what will you do ?

(Gary): I am throwing a dinner party…and I am inviting YOU !

(Flattie):Wow a party for me….wow..you are the best.

(Gary): I think it’s important for you to know, you’ll be feeding 3 guests.

Another flattie hits the deck..

It's a nicer model too....saweeeet !
http://i307.photobucket.com/albums/nn284/garywuebben/marinaw-bucketbay-garyhalibut2.jpg

Then another Pancake….but that sucka SLAMMED my gulp jig about 8’ off the bottom, coming up !

After that, the bite fizzled out as the outgoing tide strongly shifted us round.

After a several more small checkers and 2 sandbass

It was back to the cuda Slayage..

And Slayage is the WORD !

It went WFO….many many double hookups…..we’d just get our lure’s out then we’d hear

FISH ON !.. or Hooookup !

We started getting many of the bigger units too, we caught so many our LC’s were tore up, the painted scratched so much that you could see through the clear plastic..

We had to probably land more than 30 each…

We both tangled with 1 REAL HUGE model….both of us at different time had the beasties online….batting away….rods loaded up, only to have them shake off !

Too bad about those pigs, I’m certain they were way past legal ranges.

All those cuda were “Yoked!” and diplayed great fighting tactics, we each had one come flying out of the water over 2 feet out up and over the water….crazy stuff but quite exciting !

Dwayne also landed a YFC on the LC

Didnt take pics of the small fish or a majority of the cuda

We had a wonderful and fruit-full day on the bay…
Good times, till next time,
Gary
