Met up with LunkerLover today to try out some NPH Tubing. I hadn't been back to NPH since my awesome birthday outing, so I've been dying for the past 2 weeks to get back out there. The plan was to meet at 8am, but I decided to get there at 7am to try a few of my usual spots. :Wink: The idea was to beat the skunk as soon as possible with the early morning bite.

When I got there the bite was WFO. Every other cast produced a bite. Lot of missed bites but finally hooked up on a 3 spotties on my way back to meet up with LunkerLover.

Finally met up with LunkerLover and headed off to Bay Island where we spent the entire day fishing. It was a little weird at first on the tube. It took me a while to realize that I could not move forward, I could only move backwards. My instincts were telling me to keep myself afloat by kicking my feet but every time I did, I would drift away from where I was trying to cast, lol. It took me a while to coordinate fishing while maneuvering the tube around at the same time, but once I got the hang of it, it was actually pretty relaxing.

All day we were wondering where all the halis were at. No legals or pancakes to be found. Finally LunkerLover ends the day with this nice hali. Good job bro.

It was a fairly productive day despite all of the missed bites and farmed fish. Thanks again, LunkerLover, for inviting me out, lending me gear and showing me around. I had an awesome first time on the tube. :Cool:

good job for your first time on a tube hunny! :Big Grin: and it looks like you caught a nice hesbros-sized spottie this morning too. thanks, lunkerlover, for taking him out, he's always been wanting to try and i would never ever ever have tubed with him. LOL. after seeing a barracuda slice my swimbait clean in 2, i'm not too excited about losing any of my piggies. :Neutral: but i'm glad you guys had a good time out there. i need a new rod, was that one any good? LOL! lunkerlover, hope we can all fish together sometime soon!

Wait until you try fishing NPH at night. That's when the real action happens...

Yeah man, when you tube out by davey jones at night and the bull seal comes to harass you with a few good bumps is when you really start to question your dedication to our sport. haha

Thanks! Yess that was a hesbros-sized spottie indeed. Glad I was able to wake up early enough to hit our spots.

Yeah it was definitely a new experience. Being so close to the water, makes you feel closer to the action when your pulling in fish.

It was a great day out there for my first time tubing. The wind would come and go, but overall wasn't too bad. Oh yeah, plenty of fish too. :Big Grin:

Thanks Wingnut. Me and LunkerLover expected to see you and Steve out there floating around. No one else but a few kayakers and some shore fisherman out there. We had bay island all to ourselves. :Big Grin: Got some things to do this weekend, but I think I can spare a few morning hours. :Wink:

Yes harbor fishing is very addicting. Gotta get out there and try it. Look up some of the older posts for some tips.

Seals!? :Shocked: I don't think I would ever tube again if a seal bit me. Seal lions suck. So do seagulls.

I first started fishing NPH at night, but I'm starting to enjoy the morning just because it's easier to fish during the day.

Looks like a nice day of tubing the harbor!

I did loose a setup in the harbor in Feb during our SWBA Tourney. If that is it does not look like I want it back with that kind of corrosion!

...that rod was nasty! mussels, eggs, etc. ... had an old swimbait on it though ......

It was an awesome day of fishing. Me and LunkerLover expected to see you out there, until I found out that you were fightin fires in SB. Don't worry all the fish were CPR'd and awaiting your arrival this Sunday. :Wink:
