If money were no object, what would be the best casting rod i could get for fishing LC 110's. I'm looking to pair it with a Conquest 200 DC. Any recommendations would help.

It's not expensive at all,Get an 8' Shimano Teramar Eastcoast series MH fast action....That would be a sick setup,or a 7'3" ,"salty" Carrot Stix M action....Or try looking at The St. Croix "MOJO-Bass".....They have a wide selection of rods for different applications,And $120!You'll have lots of extra $$$ to buy some more LC's....hahaha!Good luck.

Don't use a rod with too (stiff) fast of an action. If the rod is too stiff it will dampen the action of the LC which will lead to less strikes. The LC is going to swim better a rod with a slow to medium action than a rod with a fast heavy aciton. A rod with a slower action takes longer to load up which allows the fish to eat the lure a second loner whch may not seem like much but it will lead to more hooked fish. Also halibut have soft mouths and are notorious for using violent head/ body shakes to throw hooks. A softer rods does a better job obsorbing the shock from the shakes and less likely to rip the hooks out of the fishes mouth.

For these reasons many freshwater bass fisherman prefer glass rods for fishing crank and jerk baits but a graphite is fine for halibut. A medium action rod rated for 8-20lb line and is 8'+ in length is ideal. I use a shakari which is longer available but there are plenty of rods out there that will do the job and do it well.

Phenix X-10 Crankbait rod. It has a graphite lower half that allows it to have a lot of lifting power, but a soft fiberglass top half that allows you to fling LCs out far and prevents the hooks from tearing out when you hook a halibut. You could go with an X-12 if you want a 7'6" rod, but I have never seen the need for anything more than 7'. Don't get a fast action rod, you'll tear the hooks out on bigger fish when they head shake. Plus, the X-10 got editor's choice on Tackletour. It'll only run you $190. You don't need to spend more than that on a crankbait rod.

Would a GLoomis Crankbait rod work as well?

I used a G loomis 7' 11" cranking for a short period of time it worked okay until the day I snapped in half getting it out of my truck.. I had bought the rod from a friend for a low price but I've never been much of a Loomis fan. I have wrapped a few loomis blanks in past and based on my experiences with Loomis rods I would say there are plenty of better rods out there for less than half the price.. Most cranking rods are 7" to 7' 6" and I've tried 7" 6" rods for fishing the LC in the surf I supose it's prefference but I feel the longer rod 8"+ provides a lot of advantages including improved casting distance. Also it longer makes it easier to keep your line above approaching waves. Still some will prefer the shorter rods.. I recommend picking up your new setup ASAP because it's halibut prime time right now and their biting..

It depends on how you are gonna fish them. I use a 6'8" composite cranking rod, medium heavy in the surf or when fishing them like a crank (trolling for example). Before that it was a medium action composite 7 footer. Either way, stick with composite or e-glass if you plan on running them at a steady rate. Graphite has too fast of a reflex for cranks in the surf IMO. The more parabolic rods allow you to see the action of the lure better, and they allow better action overall. Now when I'm fishing them in freshwater or harbors like a jerkbait, i'll use an extra fast medium graphite setup around 7 feet or so and fireline. In this case you get better twitch response and better sensitivity.

Indeed. I have a St. Croix Mojo medium extra fast, and it owns! Best bang for the buck out there.

I'm leaning towards the phoenix x12 for my lc applications on the surf. What are some higher end rods for throwing the lc's

If you go more expensive than the Phenix price point, you are going to see the prices go way up for not much more performance. A $250 glass rod is not going to perform better than the $200. Anything over $200 for a crankbait rod is overkill, especially for a surf rod that is going to take a beating. You could always get a Phenix X-12 blank and get it custom wrapped if you really want to go high end. Get Ti/SiC guides, custom painted reel seat, carbon fiber split grips, and a spiral wrap for a wicked halibut rod.

I use a Lamiglas SK705R. Loads up nicely. You'll appreciate how the glass rods load up.

I agree I have the same rod and love it....for surf fishign I would wouldve done the 7'2" MH...little more backbone

Granted I do prefer a more parabolic action and the softer tip....especially when fishing for halibut in the surf...

You might want to bump up to a 250DC for extra line capacity.
