I was going to head out and chase stripers tonight on Captain Castaic’s boat, but the wind changed those plans. Instead I hit the shore of the upper lake for an hour just before sunset. There was a film crew there filming a kids show at the west ramp. They shot a cannon out into the lake (which was pretty cool) and then had a kid skateboard off of the end of the dock. It seems they are always filming something up there.

I started fishing off of the rocks to the west of the ramp and got my dropshot weight hooked up on my first two casts. Then I remembered a Hank Parker tip I saw last week and bent the weight in the middle. I didn’t get hooked on the rocks again the rest of the day … it was a pretty cool tip.

I managed one nice fish at just under 2 pounds on a Yamamoto shad on the dropshot. I got bit again on the end of the boat dock just as the lifeguard was pulling in and calling everyone off of the lake. I wanted to throw out again to see if I could get the fish to bite, but the lifeguard was pulling the boat in next to me and I thought I better not.

The wind was pretty strong up there, but it was still a great way to end the day.

If you get really bored, here is the link to a video I took of the kid taking his skateboard off of the ramp.

Some of the tips are good and some are bull. For instance hardly any of Wally Marshalls crappie tips would work on our lakes out here.

Whats the scoop on the bent weight? Suppose to not get hung up as much?

Congrats on the bass, way ta keep on 'em..

Yeah that trick's cool, it's been around quite some time, I do that accasionally, it actually aids in bottom contact too, in flatter areas as well, creating a weightier feel when draging.

it works but I wouldn't do it religiously, only in certain conditions as you note in the rocks, or in a windier setting where bottom contour is not felt well due to wind slack/bow.

Nice work on the mossback..
Salute !

Those fancy dropshot weights are too expensive......ready for the c&r bassin tip of the day?

Use splitshots instead....who cares how many you lose.
