Has anyone tried fishing with a RC boat? Looks like fun while waiting for the fish to bite. You would also be able to get into some tighter spots if you were in a boat, The possiblities could be endless, And the all important question: Would it be legal in California?

Here's a few websites I've seen: http://www.geekologie.com/2008/07/rc_fishing_boat_does_the_work.php

Cool, but ILLEGAL.

Read the general provisions part in DFG regs.

Does not meet definition of "Angling". (sec. 1.05)

Only other things I can suggest is private lakes (pay lakes).....depending on their rules if they allow it.

I believe it's illegal unless at a private lake... Even if it was, it kinda takes the whole fun out of fishing IMO... The whole fun is feeling the fish pull your line etc...

I know ratsnest all too well without the help of a RC boat. It could work to hit the tight spots but I think IO would spend most of the day untangling my line.

Oh I see you have your line attached to the boat and it basically does your casting... I've seen one that no pole is used. Just some line attached to a boat...

Indeed. Additionally, if you read the CA hunting regs, it clearly states that it is illegal to take any wildlife by the aid of remote control device. An RC boat definitely fits in that category.

I saw a fishing show once, where two pro's had a competition at the end of the show with these little RC boats. They had like 3 minutes to catch as many bluegill as they could. Funny stuff.

Sansou, Skyler,

I see in the DFG regs on page 13, this heading :Section 2.45. "Computer Assisted Remote Fishing". This clearly states that it is not legal in the state of California, At anyrate Thanks for the heads up, now if I can find that RC Sub............Just kidding

Yes I have tried once using my RC boat, but I was not succeeded and it was really fun while waiting for the fish to bite and then to capture it through boat. I think it is legal in california.

Someone asked about this recently on Carrie Wilson's Q&A on DFG's website. I think she said it was legal as long as your line from your pole is attached to the lure. Like using a downrigger release, I guess.
