does anybody know if i can hoopnet for crabs at the pier without a license?


or would i need one?

if its a state pier no lic. needed but there is size limits good luck

thanks, i haven't fished in almost a year now ever since my license expired and haven't had money to buy a new one

so i'm deciding to go hit up the pier for some macks and then rockcrab or spidey

Hey like he said as long as it is a public and not a private pier you do not need a license. However you do need a crab gauge as well as you are only allowed a maximum of two nets per angler on a pier. Good Luck!

yeah i have a crab guage. i'll probably try newport pier or balboa pier sometime this week

know if people ever have any luck there?

I don't know much about crabin' but I was at balboa a few weeks ago... Not fishing just hangin with my daughter and while we happened to be there someone netted a decent size crab. It was pretty cool, my daughter was really into it... The guy let him crawl around on the pier while people got to check it out...

Remember, you can only use two fishing appliances at once on a public pier, either two hoop nets or two poles. Or one hoop net and one pole.
