Met up with SkipperDick this morning and hit up a few spots for nothing. Took Todd to one spot that I have not fished in awhile and after the huge uphill hike, we were up at the duct and throwing everything we had at em. I get a shadow that looks to be a follower but it didn't come all the way up or close to the edge like they normally do. I'm thinking my eyes are playing tricks on me. So we keep working the section and I finally hook up. Fight is on although it was not a big fighter and it comes to the side and starts to swim inches from shore. I yank it up out of the water and put an end to that. It measures a healthy 24". I guess around 5 lbs. We keep working the area and a few minutes later I am hooked up again. This one at least makes an attempt at a fight but I bring it in and it's a small one. It went 17". Released it back to fight another day. Caught them both on a Rapala X-Rap. We fished a little longer and I had to take off. Todd hung around as the spot was looking good and he wanted to get something out of there. I hope you got something bro. Nice to meet you and to fish with you. We'll do it again.

Here are two pics of the 24" and once I made the long walk back to the car I was able to weigh it and it came in at 5 lbs. 6oz. I was totally amazed to catch the 17" one. I have not caught a little on like that in years in the Palmdale area. I guess there are some minis here after all http://www.hookupsportfishing.com/forum/images/smilies/smile.gif Todd, did you bring it with you from Bakersfield? http://www.hookupsportfishing.com/forum/images/smilies/biggrin.gif That fish was out of place, lol. There's also a video clip link for the feisty 24"er on the stringer trying to escape.

That sounds good. It's been hit or miss. I went 0/3 until today. I lost your skinny perch lure in a snag at the bottom of the duct yesterday. I so wanted to catch a fish on it as the pattern is great at mimicking the tule perch that are in there in schools and schools hiding out.

WTG Again Yolo.... The weather was a bit better yesterday, and looks to be even better today. Was the water flowing? I seemed to have misplaced my XRap. I have the same one, but I have not caught a striper on that yet. I better go dig it up and try my hand. Perhaps Penny and I will go out tonight. Congrats on you fish. In the video, that guy wanted to get away so bad.

So are you getting tired of eating Striped Bass yet?

thepuma,

One gate was 1/8 open so the water was barely moving. I have never caught anything on the XRap either until yesterday. I have thrown it quite a bit before too. This one hit and came right to shore and was swimming right at the concrete edge. I yanked it up the concrete so it probably had lots of fight left in it as he came in quite premature. When I was tying the stringer to the ladder, it almost took off by trying to yank the stringer out of my hand. It was splashing like crazy and got me pretty wet just tying it up. This one was the first male that I have caught this year. This too had an empty stomach.

I promised my dad a fish so I filleted this one and gave it to him. I still have a little bit left in the freezer from the last DD. The baby 17" was released immediately.

Go get em out there. I have been catching them all over the water column from bottom to mid to just under the surface. I don't know why they don't like top water in the AV like Bako. Could it be because our duct sections are way narrower and maybe forces the fish a little lower? The duct is way wider out by Bako and also much deeper. That's the only variable that I can think of.

trail blazer,

I have thrown it enough times but no takers. The Trap is still the most productive for me although not this outing.
