Its that time again to begin planning for Flatmasters 3 in the city of Blythe at Mayflower park. The last 2 years has been a tremendous success and I invite each and every one of you to show up if you would like. Participants can fish either the main river or the canals for this event, just make sure that you arrive back by weigh in time. This year weigh in time will be done at 7:30am to help beat the June heat that occurs around that time. If there are anyone that is in need of bait locations and fishing areas just holla at ya boy and I will hook you up for the event when you arrive. There are many fishing areas as far as canals, drain ditches, and main river that is available and applies to this event. Fee for this event is 25 dollars - 20 going to single biggest flathead - 5 going to single biggest channel.

Flathead category is broken down into 1st thru 3rd place at 50%, 35%, and 15% of total deposits for single biggest flats.

Channel category is winner takes all for single largest channel.

If there is anyone that would like to help sponsor this event please contact me and I will add you to the list of sponsors.

The goal of this event is to have a good time, and to learn and catch some flatheads. A basis seminar will be offered to those who are new in the hunt. As the thread continues I will offer some tips and insights as to what to bring and use in your quest for the mighty flathead.

Registration and sign ups began at 8am on Saturday morning at Mayflower Park.
Weigh in and distribution of prizes will began at 730am on Sunday morning.

If this sounds of interest to you please sign up. I look forward to your participation.

Hey Brain I'll be there to take the $$$ and don't let me forget this one lol

hey blue their mite be a thought put in to do the weigh in on the big sand bar just north of Mayflower easy to pull boats up to and makes for easy CPR,, keeps the fish in the water longer then pulling the boats out and then the weigh in

bluehunter

Thanks Dale. That sandbar sounds cool if the water does not come up in the morning and cover it up by that time. But hopefully we'll be cool at Mayflower. Talk to you soon I got ya on.

Hay BlueHunter, I would love to join but i have made other plans to be above you guys on Parker strip.

Is the Parker area also good for those big Flatheads? I'm staying on the water and want to see if i can hook into one of those big boys....any tips?

Goldfish and 20lb with a sliding egg sinker is what i have heard works.

I have no experience on the parker area yet but I have heard of flatheads down that way being good. I expect to give that area a shot really soon. As far as tackle for the flatheads I would use 30-40 pound test line. Flats are strong and some people use powerpro or braided line even for them. The sinker is depended on the current of the water. I would use 5-6 ounce sinkers. If current is really slack you can use 3 ounce.

Great info bluehunter. I will give that a try and let you know how i do. I forgot about that strong current. i will need to bump up my line and sinkers.

Thanks again and good luck fishing!

Event is up and coming. Should be a good crowd in tact of willful flatheadhunters. We will have a good time and remember everyone that this is all about fishing and learning. Lets keep it positive and uplifting to help things grow and spread out and teach others what we have learned along the way. The tournaments this year has been excellent thanks to willful supporters and drama free folks that is working together to make things happen. Look forward to seeing you there and stay tuned for many more to come.

Remember follow the rules of the event and stay within lines and rules established by the DFG. We do not want to hear about anyone getting ticketed as they may be out and checking along some routes similar to the Imperial Valley event. Remember your license and river permit if fishing the river. If you plan to bring a boat remember to find your spots during the day or late evening before sundown and stay put till sunrise. Navigating at night can be dangerous and there are many shallow areas and sandbars in the way that is best seen during daylight. If fishing bank areas there are many zones in Blythe and also Palo Verde that can give you what you want. Any questions feel free to ask or email /pm me your concerns.

Thanks Joe.

I will give a full report soon. Computer is down at home so using computer at work for now. There was a 53 pound flat landed by Todd of Team760 four hours before registration. It was his pb. Fish was kept by another participant to feed his family who helped to land the fish. Other than that it was a good turn out and I would like to thank all participants that showed up and competed in such a friendly event. Will get pictures up soon. Vid or slide will follow way later until I get internet fixed at home or if I can do it sooner at another house. Those who took pics free free to post some of the pics. I will give a break down of the winners and participants soon. Biggest flat of event was a 17 pounder for first place.

The following is a report of the participants as well as who won in each category. Participants came from as far as L.A and Compton to middle location of Riverside and Fontana to the San Diego area and as local as Blythe itself with participants. I initially stated there was 16 participants, the number was actually 18 now that I look back on the records. Anglers was allowed to fish main river or the area canals in Blythe and Palo Verde. Permits were accomplished and if anyone would like to see the sponsorship of our club it is listed under the fishing permit section of the DFG website as an organization that have derbies. Each club or group that is registered in California is listed under this category such as we.

Flathead category -

1st place - Jake Garett- 17.5#s of Blythe.

2nd place - Brian Cummings - 10#s of Inglewood.

3rd place - Morgan Blake - 9#s of LA Mesa.

Other following flats that were weighed in included a 11.5 and a 12.5 for Jake from a drain ditch in Blythe. A 6 pounder for Kurt, a 7.5 for Max of La quinta, and a 5.5 for Deon of Ontario.

The channel category went as the following.

Top channel - Eric Williams - 5.1#s from the main river. Eric is from Pacific Beach.

Other remaining channels weighed in was Morgan Blake - 3.5, Deon - 1.5, and Joe of La Quinta with a 3.5 and a 4 pounder.

Another great event and showing. Hope to see some of you all at the next event which will be last flathead event of season. Pictures will soon as well as the group shots of the participants. As soon as I get the photos together I will get them on and a computer to work them on.

Had a great time in blyth / palo verde , caught more bass than cats but found a good channel spot thanks to my brother calling me up and telling me he had a 4 pound channel forcing me to switch gears, and get that 5 pounder in a slow drain ditch.Only flats caught were the night before at the zip line. That we went back to around 1:30am:sat. , were I had the mother of all runs (up stream)and farmed it like a plot of corn....first time posting pictures hope they come out ...Thanks again to blue hunter for putting these on fun as always.
